19.01.2022 Over 4 million dollars of federal government funding has been granted to Julia Creek, Richmond, Dajarra, Stamford and Morning Island for telecommunications. M...ember for Kennedy Bob Katter said it's aimed at improving phone coverage and speed of internet. "It's far from what needs to be done in these areas," Mr Katter said. "But they've been crying out for more to be done, so this is a good step." No date has been set for when work will start in the area.

07.01.2022 A great story from ABC Rural about Hughenden’s efforts to make better use of the region’s water to support a diversified agricultural sector and strengthen its ...economy. Diverse, strong local economies help communities thrive and steel them against the economic impact of future challenges, including natural disasters. Through our work with communities affected by the 2019 North Queensland monsoon trough, we know that a broad economic base which builds on the strong agricultural sector in North and North West Queensland is key to recovery and to reducing the economic impact of future shocks. Just like Hughenden, we’re committed to economic diversification. It’s why Broadening the Economic Base is one of the pillars of the region’s long-term strategy and why the Australian Government has committed $9 million for grants that support and grow emerging and existing industries and supply chains.
