25.01.2022 A few pics today of the St.LukesHealth NW Thunders media release announcing the exciting news that Nick Haywood will lead the way as the clubs 2021 head coach

24.01.2022 Probably one of the most intriguing personalities the Thunder has ever seen. Its never a dull moment with this young man around! Kobe spent 3 season with the thunder playing spark minutes off the bench! Kobe is a hard nosed point guard who is currently attending Minot State university in North Dakota. Weve added a few of Kobes hit YouTube songs to his highlight video along with his game winner in his freshman year at college

22.01.2022 Amazing sponsors of your NW Thunder.

21.01.2022 Still wondering why Joe gets his comparisons to @manuginobili ?? Here is one video why. (Please note, Joe only tends to pull off about 1 of these per 100 attempts... so dont get too carried away)

21.01.2022 Its a pleasure working with guys covering the whole state.

19.01.2022 Congrats Reyne from everyone at Thunder on your commitment to Winthrop University, a dream come true to be a part of the US College System !!! Your Thunder family couldnt be prouder !!!!

19.01.2022 Cam Brown will be on 'centre stage' this week as he fronts up for his 100th league game! While the majority of those have been played with the @hobartchargers - Cam has been with us now for two seasons, the aborted 2020 and of course as part of the 5 crucial games thus far in 2021. They don't come much more 'blue collar' than Cam; he is a tireless worker who always gives his all, and his unflustered and even temperament means he always remains focussed on the task at hand. He... works super hard in defence, often against much taller opponents, and has also worked very hard on his outside shooting, providing coach Haywood with a great role player at both ends of the floor. Get along this Saturday night to support Cam in his milestone game and grab a photo and an autograph post-match. #Browny #ThunderUp : @roberthomaspencer

19.01.2022 Son of former Thunder Star Ben Armstrong, Tre is the another exciting local prospect. His ability to shoot and score the basketball from anywhere has made it easy for him perform no matter what level he is playing... be it NWBU, NBL1 or College. Tre spent 3 seasons with the thunder before accepting a basketball scholarship at California Baptist University. Some may think his second season with the thunder was his breakout year but it could very well be said that his 3rd year was where he made the biggest jump. Tre opened that year with two 30 point performances in his first 3 games. Here is some highlights from both those games!

19.01.2022 Hi all, Just letting everyone know about an online fundraiser that the club is participating in. We have undertaken a significant rebranding since forming our fabulous partnership with St.LukesHealth and as part of that exercise, have sourced a complete new on and off-court wardrobe for our team at a significant cost to our organisation. These are financially confronting times for everyone and we currently have no income being generated and there are many unknowns around o...ur roster and crowd capacity going forward around playing conditions and social distancing. To that end, we have accepted an invitation to participate in this virtual canteen fundraiser and while appreciating that everyone has challenges around the Covid19 environment, if you are able to spare a few dollars to assist our bottom line and help us finance our new initiatives, we would all be extremely grateful. There is certainly no pressure or expectation. Hope everyone stays safe and happy and look forward to seeing you all around a basketball court in the future watching Thunder score another win!! 19.01.2022 Even though our 2012 squad didnt make the finals, they certainly showed the potential to be a powerhouse that year as we knocked off the 2012 grand finalists Dandenong at home by 16 points! The squad featured a strong starting 5 with Nick Haywood, BJ Armstrong, Shawntes Gary, Eric Gaff and Blagoj Janev with Big Sam Harris and lee Mcgaffin coming off the bench!

18.01.2022 Earlier today your St.LukesHealth North-West Thunder coach, Nick and star player, Mason took on the first of many ice baths for the season. This one however was not for recovery after a big road trip victory, but rather a tremendous fundraising event coordinated and hosted by the Central Coast Youth Leaders Council - The Pledge for a Plunge! The Pledge for a Plunge event was designed to support the Fight MND 27 Challenge which works to raise funds and awareness for those affe...cted by MND. We are proud to announce that Mason, Nick and the Thunder crew were able to contribute just over $200 to the Fight MND 27 Challenge for their efforts today! Yeeeheeeew! #ThunderUp @ Ulverstone, Tasmania

17.01.2022 Big E was another fan favourite along the northwest coast during his time here. Eric spent 3 years with the thunder and over that stretch produced some amazing statistical games. A few of these games included a weekend stretch of two games averaging 14ppg, 15.5rbs and 8.5blks while also earning player of the week. Big E also managed the haul in 27.. yes 27 rebounds against Canberra in 2011! Check out a few highlights from those games

17.01.2022 Hard not to forget these highlights! Shawntes was not only a crowd favourite but also a team favourite while he spent his years down here with the thunder! The hype was real when people got a glimpse of these highlights when the Thunder first signed Shawntes. And its fair to say he lived up to the Hype. The best of his 3 seasons with the thunder came in 2011 where he averaged 26 points and 6 rebounds per game and was named a SEABL all star!

17.01.2022 Exciting times ahead !!

17.01.2022 We seen a little bit of what Troy could do with the thunder in our last video! But how about recent times? Troy joined the Los Angeles Lakers D league team in the 2016-17 season and had some impressive games and showed exactly how he was the SEABL leading scorer in 2007! Check it out!

15.01.2022 Lachy Dent! Lachy spent the 2019 season with the Thunder and started at the point guard spot. Prior to that The all-round guard who has a great ear for music was coming off nearly a two year stint with AFL club Sydney Swans as part of their elite academy and playing for their second side in the NEAFL. Prior to these two years Lachy was a promising basketball junior, representing Australia and his state (NSW) in junior basketball championships! After his 2019 stint with the thunder, Lachy joined the Illawarra Hawks in the NBL as a Development Player and hit the court in 2 games!

15.01.2022 T Pizzle spent the 2013 season with the Thunder after finishing his college career at Santa Clara where he earned WCC defensive player of the year honours in 2011! 14.01.2022 The former Sydney Kings forward spent two years with the Thunder. Blags played just 10 games during the 2012 season averaging 17ppg and 7rbs before going down with a calf injury and then returned for to us in the 2013 season to average 16ppg and 4rbs! Blags was a lights out shooter and a great scoring option for the thunder during his two year stint!

13.01.2022 Thunder Basketball wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the State Government after hearing the fantastic news outlined in today’s state budget, which will see funding for the school clinics program extended for a further four years. This is an extremely valuable initiative that allows the three Tasmanian NBL1 clubs to send their players into schools all around Tasmania to generate interest in the sport and foster development of basketball across the state. Thunder is confi...dent that the investment will reap significant rewards in terms of exposing our young students to a great sport, getting them involved with their local basketball clubs and identifying a pathway to the elite levels of the sport and the highest standard of competition. The contribution and support is very much appreciated.

13.01.2022 Half time! Thunder 51 Eagles 49... PC the high point man with 14 Joe with 12 #ThunderUp

12.01.2022 St.LukesHealth NW Thunder basketball would like to advise that Sam Armstrong has advised the club that he will not be taking up his two year option to continue as head Coach for seasons 2021 and 2022. Sam has a young family and the increasing demands and the huge commitment related to preparing and leading a team in the NBL1 program has impacted heavily on his capacity to be involved in his childrens educational and sporting pursuits. The club fully supports Sams decision.... Sam is a life member of the club and one of our most celebrated team members over an outstanding playing career. We wish him well in all his endeavours in the future and thank him wholeheartedly for his tremendous contribution across all aspects of our organisation over the past three seasons. Thanks Sam

11.01.2022 And our signings for 2021 have started !!!

11.01.2022 Lachy has been a fan favourite over the years! Lachys silky smooth handles combined with his great shooting and athleticism made him tough to handle! The Riana product spend multiple years with the Thunder before joining the Frankston Blues for the 2018 season! Lachy has spent time as a Development player for the Sydney kings and has also spent time training with the South east Melbourne! Here are some highlights from lachs younger years in 2015! We miss you lach, come back

11.01.2022 St.LukesHealth North West Thunder was extremely pleased to receive an unsolicited gift earlier this year in the shape of some wonderful basketball memorabilia highlighting the fantastic win of the 1996 Boags Originals in the then CBA semi-national competition. Quentin Rataj, one of the players in that awesome team coached by Phil Thomas, has provided the club with some lasting memories of that historic win with his playing singlet signed by the entire team, an Originals cap a...nd even the actual net from one of the hoops in the Devonport stadium!! The club are extremely appreciative of the gesture and have added the mementos to our display cabinet upstairs at Olivers Bakery and Café arena in Ulverstone. Have a look next time you are at a home game! It was certainly a classy combination, featuring the likes of Ben Armstrong, Marcus Bellchambers, Matt Bennell, Ben Harvey, Nic Page, Dave Biwer, Keith Bragg, Jason Pepper, Mark Piercey, Michael Rowlands, Sean Sherlock and Lamont Ware. That quality of the team would still be very competitive today!

04.01.2022 The unorthodox lefty draws comparisons to NBA player Manu Ginobili with his flashy passes and classy mid range game! In 2014 Joe even managed to score 19 points in a half against Canberra. (word is he is still thanking point guard Mason Bragg for spoon feeding him most of those points) Joe is an exciting player to watch and here are some of his highlights from that canberra game and also from his most recent thunder season in 2019! At joes request we have put his favourite song in the background! Enjoy

01.01.2022 Reyne is certainly someone to keep your eye on. He played his first year with the thunder last year before accepting a scholarship to the Basketball Centre of Excellence in Canberra (COE). Could be regarded as the best shooter in the country for his age group and is already drawing eyes from college coaches in America. His 40 point performance at the recent u20 nationals was just one of many showings of his ability to shoot the ball.
