25.01.2022 MICROCHIPPING DAY A few snaps of the puppies from this afternoon - cuddles from some new people, jabs from a B-I-G needle and lots of treats for being goo...d! A big thankyou to NW Visiting Vet Nurse Karen for doing a home visit and for a great job! Microchipping is a necessary evil. Although this is not a nice experience for puppies, we try to make it as stress free as possible. These are the things we do well before microchipping day to keep stress to a minimum. We do lots of preparation for this day weeks and weeks before, in the form of regular body handling from birth We start socialising puppies early to strangers (from 3-4 weeks) We create a positive conditioned emotional response (+CER) to being touched and restrained We use an implanter who has good handling skills and is gentle and kind We make sure the puppies are happy and relaxed beforehand We use yummy food before, during and after the experience We give the puppies happy experiences at being elevated above ground level and being on a table We use an anaesthetic cream (available at the Chemist) to numb the site prior We organise our vaccinations and microchipping for different days and/or weeks, not at the same time There were a few squeaks when the needle went in but they all recovered quickly, which is what we want to see. Very grateful to Puppy Culture for helping us to raise resilient puppies! #happyCER #positivereinforcement #raisinghappypuppies #supportresponsiblebreeders #fearfreetraining #socialisation #puppyculture #puppyculturepuppies #microchipping #newexperience

16.01.2022 This happy story is made possible by the wonders of MICROCHIPPING Miso went missing from his South Launceston home in July 11. He was found in Numamara on t...he weekend, where it appears he was dumped. We were able to reunite this lovely family with their cat because they had microchipped Miso. With amendments to the Cat Management Act due to be debated in August, this requirement will very likely be law by the end of the year. This is a story with a happy ending. Give yourself a fighting chance of being reunited with your pets, should they roam, by microchipping them at your local vet clinic.

15.01.2022 In Tasmania it is law that your dog is restrained when travelling in a car. Your dog can: be tethered with a special seat belt clip like the ones pictured wear a harness attached to the seatbelt travel in a crate... Laws vary in other states and territories so you need to check what is required where you live. https://www.ract.com.au///keeping-our-pets-safe-in-the-car See more

15.01.2022 BEFORE YOU GET A PUPPY Or ADOPT A DOG - READ THIS! ... and then think long and hard about how you will adjust your life to include your new addition ... I am a Dobermann, cataloged one of the most intelligent and most feared dogs, I have served the US Navy and I will not narrate my dark past on the German side. They called me the devil's dog, today they ask me to behave like a Poodle, they have gone so far as to wear clothes ... I am a Malinois:...Continue reading

02.01.2022 Well it's that time of the year again here in Tassie; Our snakes are starting to wake from there semi hibernation months over winter and We have starting receiv...ing calls, Damo even relocated a solid Tiger from Riana today(not one in picture). I have put together some tips for the household to be proactive about the possibility of a snake visit this season 1) keep your house yard clutter free 2) keep your gardens and lawns well maintained; this increases your visibility of a snake that may have entered into your yard. 3) check your children's outside play equipment ie sandpits, cubby houses and ensure toys in these areas are packed up after use. 4) avoid dumping footwear outside the back or front doors 5) Try keep on Top of rodent control in the house and sheds etc. If you have a shed full of rats and mice you increase the chance of a snake visiting for dinner. 6) if you live on a property you may have a snake visit that is looking for water; you can place some water containers along the perimeter or outside boundary which may give the snake the water they need and avoid coming closer to the house 7) Pay attention to your pets behavior if your dog or cat seem to be lunging or swiping at something attempt to call your pet over and investigate from a safe distance. 8) learn snake bite first aid and get yourself a snake bite first aid kit. You can download a snake bite first aid treatment sheet from the St John's website. 9) know your local snake catchers and have a contact number ready and accesible. If you have any other queries or need some prevention advice feel free to call us. See more
