21.01.2022 If you ever thought authentic Aboriginal Art was outside your budget, or your house doesn't have any free wall-space left for another painting ... it's time to please reconsider!! The local artists at Nyinkka Nyunyu in Tennant Creek are producing a series of small freestanding frames with handpainted original designs of their culture. These are the first to go on display today at just $30.00 each. Drop in to snap up a bargain!! Explore Tennant Creek & the Barkly Region

21.01.2022 Here at Nyinkka Nyunyu, we love greeting visitors from all over the world! Today, we had the pleasure of meeting Elbert and S'nieka, a Dutch couple who are tandem cycling across Australia, all the way from Darwin to Adelaide!! It was a delight to share Warumungu culture with them! Safe travels! #exploretennantcreek

19.01.2022 How's this for a happy start to your workday! Tamika Clevin brought me this lovely smiley-face coffee! Happy Days :D

19.01.2022 One of our visitors, Jane, is here on a return visit. Jane was really keen to sit and paint with the ladies, they've taught her to dot-paint a design that is personally important to her ... she chose a starfish! We're thrilled to know she will take home a happy memory of her visit here!

18.01.2022 As a part of the Julalikari family, we are attending the Careers Expo at the Civic Hsll in Tennant Creek. We made a photo frame for the kids to nominate what they want to be when they grow up! Here's one of the Julalikari staff, Ethan, demonstrating! The students get to shoot for their career goals in our basketball hoop, and talk to staff from a range of Julalikari units about career options here in Tennant and across the Barkly.

18.01.2022 Two lovely young lads visited us today with their family, and asked if they could paint something? Here are Walter and Samson, being guided by Latisha, Leanne and Elaine! #exploretennantcreek

18.01.2022 We were pleased to say Apijirra (Welcome) to The Hon. Lauren Moss MLA, NT Minister for Arts & Culture at Nyinkka Nyunyu today, along with our local Member, The Hon. Gerry McCarthy MLA. They attended a meeting of tourism operators and stakeholders, to discuss NTG investments in our regional tourism industry. Thanks to Gerry for facilitating this meeting, chaired by Nyinkka manager Kate Foran. It was a productive hour, with tasty offerings from the cafe workers. We look forward to continue to liaise with the Ministers on Tennant Creek entry statements and an iconic Indigenous art trail throughout the NT, and encourage the NT Government's ongoing dialogue with our creative thinkers of Tennant Creek!!

17.01.2022 Our beautiful Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Culture Centre is a big part of this exciting work.

13.01.2022 "Our Languages Matter" If you can't be here to celebrate NAIDOC with us, here's a snippet of the glorious voice of Eleanor Dixon, performing in language with her Father, Ray, and Jeff McLaughlin. Happy NAIDOC!

13.01.2022 It's Jungarrayi Jungarrayi season at Nyinkka Nyunyu! We've had a heap of the bush medicine plants growing under the kangaroo bush, they just popped up by themselves. Today the fellas harvested a heap of young tips for us, and us ladies started stripping the leaves to make Bush Vicks! Shown here is Miriam Charlie working with the young plants. In a few days we'll show you the end product!!

13.01.2022 Good morning all! At just 13 degrees this morning, welcome to 1 June, our chilly start to winter! Here's a sweetheart image to warm up your spirit!

12.01.2022 Jerry Kelly (seen here) and Tina Ricky are both wonderful ambassadors of their culture and love showing off the artist's work to our visitors!

07.01.2022 Photos from the 'Campfire Dreaming' festival event last night! Many thanks to Barkly Arts for their stewardship of the annual festival, we were very proud to host a lovely night of music sung in Aboriginal language alongside the sacred site of the Nyinkka (spiky tailed lizard) on the traditional grounds of Nyinkka Nyunyu.

06.01.2022 When visitors ask how the artists have the patience to complete such intricate artworks, we explain that doing something you love takes passion, not patience!! Here is one of our artists doing just that. Anne Dickenson is working on a lovely detailed piece on wildflowers. It's quite mesmerising to watch!

05.01.2022 This Irish fella visited us recently, and he was particularly pleased to see a translation of Welcome in his native language above our door ... Cead Mile Failte actually translates to a Hundred Thousand Welcomes!! Our manager respected her Irish ancestry by including the Irish welcome, among many other languages ... but featuring Warumungu and English as the local tongues.

05.01.2022 I posted this on the night, but it didn't load ... Friday 4 August, We hosted a lovely Desert Harmony Festival event, which began with a Welcome to Country, presented by Warumungu Traditional Owner Ross Jakamarra Williams. Thank you Jakamarra!

04.01.2022 I'm very pleased to share a lovely feedback post that has just been uploaded onto Trip Advisor about our centre ... "This has to be one of the best displays of cultural and natural information (including bush tucker) around, together with the horrible realities of what happened when whitefellas invaded." It's heartening to read of people being moved by the content and stories in the museum. I responded with thanks, noting that it is through better understanding the past, that we can all move forward together into a better future! It was a lovely message to receive to start the day!

02.01.2022 The gorgeous harmonies of Father Ray and his daughter Eleanor Dixon, aka Rayella!

02.01.2022 Grade 2 local primary students visited Nyinkka Nyunyu today to learn about local bush tucker and bush medicine plants. They were guided by experienced locals Miss Tina Ricky, Mr Danny Frank and Mr Barry Anderson.

02.01.2022 Today, Tennant Creek is celebrating NAIDOC week with a March down the main street, which concludes at Nyinkka Nyunyu Art & Culture Centre. The mob have gathered here for the NAIDOC Awards ceremony, live music and a hearty community lunch! Congratulations to all the organisers! Big congratulations to all the NAIDOC Award winners!

01.01.2022 So we've simmered the bush medicine in olive oil for hours, strained out the leaves and stems, then thickened the oil into a lotion. The Bush Vicks is ready for packaging. It will be ready for sale by tomorrow ... just $8 for a small tub and $12 for the large one. We'll take some to Pulkka Pulkka Kari, the old people's home. They love it!!
