22.01.2022 This week's featured music artist is Nyirey Kickett Nyirey Kickett Music, a Wilyakali and Nyoongar singer/songwriter from Broken Hill, NSW. 'Nyirey has grown u...p with music his whole life and in the last few years has concentrated on a solo journey writing his own material and performing at a variety of events and festivals. His songs talk about peace, love, healing and his personal life journey. Nyirey has had the opportunity to record and release music over the last few years releasing an album in 2018 and his latest single ’Silvers in my pocket’ released at the end of 2019. Nyirey's music covers a range of genres from country, folk and reggae as well as beginning to expand his style and music in a new direction from 2020.' (Nyirey's biography). Nyirey responded to the question, what life as a musician was like in the Far West: Nyirey: 'My personal experience living in the Far West as a Singer/Songwriter can have it’s absolute challenges and difficulties most times. I kind of rarely perform in town, as it doesn’t really cater for songwriters/or people that write their own material so you don’t have much opportunity to promote yourself, it’s usually about the cover bands and cover performers which is fantastic but not the direction I’m heading, so most of my gigs are interstate and elsewhere these days. Apart from that, living in Broken Hill gives me the opportunity to get a lot of my music stuff done like writing songs, arranging, editing and recording demos to send to my recording and mixing engineer buddy in Perth where I record my music in his studio. In saying all this, I think Broken Hill (being such a creative and artistic town) has an incredible opportunity to create a huge platform for performers and artists of all backgrounds that can cater for both cover groups, songwriters and original performers'.
