25.01.2022 A very humbling experience indeed. During a Zoom video conference today, Their Excellencies, Governor General David and Linda Hurley spoke of their experiences visiting parts of fire ravaged NSW. Although RFS members from throughout the State were represented, Nymboida was especially considered and they were very interested in the current well-being of the Community. They will endeavor to visit us again when they can.

10.01.2022 THANK A BANK Our financial institutions cop a lot of flak. Sometimes the so-called ‘Big Banks’ deserve it. As the recent Royal Commission into banking miscond...uct conducted by Commissioner Kenneth Hayne during 1918-19 concluded, there were many breaches of best practice behaviour and documented agreements. These breaches were largely brought about by lack of prudential supervision (by ASIC) and incentive or bonus schemes that were an inducement to engage in unilateral decisions that favoured senior executives and other bank staff, over the interests of their clients. Many of these clients using financial planning services, insurance packages, or remotely managed lending services were either exploited or misinformed about the terms and conditions of their contractual arrangements. It all comes down to trust, transparency and a culture of considering the interests of clients and community values on an equal footing with those of shareholders or managers. When a bank has a genuine and strong community affiliation, reports to a local board who understand the business and market conditions their clients face and directs their surpluses to charitable causes (not the pockets of their senior executives), we have a recipe that deserves gratitude and platitudes. We can feel comfortable with the shared sentiment and can ‘thank a bank’. Bendigo Community Bank in South Grafton has a strong record of independent local governance with locals making up their Board of Management, an excellent array of financial services customised to the needs of Clarence Valley residents and businesses, plus an impressive list of social enterprises and welfare groups it has supported. Bendigo Community Bank belongs to a network of financial institutions that constitute the fifth largest banking group in Australia. So, security for your deposits is assured and the staff are friendly and focussed on what you need, not what they get. We can always thank a bank for being better, not big! #bendigobanksouthgrafton #rfsclarencevalley

02.01.2022 Several of our Clarence Valley members are now in Narooma, assisting our colleagues from down South. Crews were greeted with some beautiful displays of apprecia...tion from the locals. Most of the Clarence Valley members have been working hard since July 2019 protecting our own communities. Now with some recent rain around here, they have the chance to help out down South. Such selfless acts from such dedicated community minded people. Thanks to all involved. See more
