22.01.2022 It's Food Allergy Week this week. An important annual initiative of Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia that aims to raise awareness about food allergy in Australia, to help reduce the risk of a reaction for those living with food allergy and to help manage potentially life-threatening emergencies when they happen. 19.01.2022 Who has escaped the flu this winter?? A batch of chicken broth about to go in the slow cooker and this time tomorrow I'll add extra garlic, ginger and turmeric for an awesome anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory healing home-made flu remedy. And did I mention yummy
17.01.2022 Food intolerance reactions are increasingly common, both in children and adults. With up to 20% of the population being affected. They can be caused by a variety of different foods and lead to a wide range of symptoms, like bloating or IBS, skin or respiratory illness, migraine or headache. Food intolerance reactions may be a result of maldigestion of food due to low levels of gastric secretions or Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO). Continuing to consume the offend...ing foods can exacerbate dysbiosis and an unhealthy gastrointestinal tract. Unlike food allergy, food intolerance reactions can be delayed and occur days after the food was consumed. Its also possible to react to more than one food group at a time. This can make it very tricky to identify the culprit. In clinic I use a simple finger-prick blood test to measure the antibodies (IgG) to a range of common foods with same day results. If you suspect food intolerance is an issue for you give me a call to discuss this test further and start to heal your gut. See more

14.01.2022 Some interesting research on the role of gut bacteria and how to get more of the good guys. Diet plays such a huge part in feeding gut bacteria and some simple changes can go a long way to ensuring your feeding the right ones.
12.01.2022 Rosemary to Remember. A beautiful culinary herb as well as great therapeutic to enhance memory. A recent study conducted on school kids showed that the group exposed to the scent of rosemary scored better on recall tests and memory games. With HSC just around the corner and end of year exams coming up rosemary is a great way to help academic performance

07.01.2022 This is a neutrophil and this is what it looks like when live blood is viewed through dark field microscopy. One of my favourite types of white blood cells, these little guys seek out and destroy invading microbes and fight off infection. Coming into winter if you think your neutrophils need a helping hand consider herbal medicine. There are many great herbs that can boost your immunity and your neutrophils will love them

01.01.2022 It's Spring and a great time to be getting into the garden. You don't need a big area to plant a few organic veges and a bit of companion planting helps to keep most of the pests away ... but not all!
01.01.2022 Its youth week and because adolescence is a period of rapid growth mentally, physically and emotionally teenagers especially need good nutrition. Not only do teens need more calories in general but protein, minerals and essential fatty acids are also important. The nutrients that help support neurotransmitter production will help keep them alert and happy. Teenage eating habits are influenced less by parents and more by friends so get them all on board and get them in the kitchen together to prepare and enjoy healthy food.
