08.01.2022 In what is no doubt our most relaxed sports diplomacy initiative yet, the New Zealand High Commission has a cricket team, the Overarmers. We ‘compete’ in the Last Man Stands Canberra competition. We’re far from world beaters, but we certainly look the part and we’ve got a fantastic support crew! 06.01.2022 Important to be in New Zealand to meet with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern for our annual leaders’ talks face-to-face, in a way that few other countries are able... to because of this terrible pandemic. The last time we saw each other in person was in February 2020 in Sydney, just as the pandemic was accelerating. It’s been a hard journey since then for both our countries - full of challenges - and this meeting takes place while Victoria faces its latest challenge, which they will overcome and will hopefully reopen again soon, based on latest case numbers, especially in regional areas. We have a busy agenda for our meeting. Australia and New Zealand have, and always will continue to work together as family, or whanau as they call it here. We will continue to work together and support each other to chart our way through this pandemic, which continues to rage around the world. Thank you also to Ngai Tahu for the beautiful and very moving welcome to country, or powhiri, they gave us this afternoon when we arrived in Queenstown.
