24.01.2022 In the wake of all that it going on in the world today, I think it is important to reflect on these words and remember that #kindnessmatters. United we stand,... divided we fall. Let us not split into factions which must destroy that union upon which our existence hangs. - Patrick Henry This is not a political post. It is a post about what it truly means to be a Lion. In a deeply divided world, I have found refuge and solace as a member of Lions Clubs International. It is an organization that has allowed me to find common unity with people from all over the globe, with people from every walk of life, and with people from all different political backgrounds. It is a non-sectarian, non-partisan association where the core mission is to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs. It is a global fellowship of service that has as one of its core purposes that Lions Clubs should provide a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; provided, however, that partisan politics and sectarian religion shall not be debated by club members. It is an international group of men, women, and children from all races, genders, and sexual orientations who have agreed to the uphold a code of ethics where they have sworn to be careful with their criticism and liberal with their praise; to build up and not destroy. Is it perfect? Of course not, but we work and serve every day to form a more perfect union. Lions all around the world talk about the moment they first became a Lion. Not when they were inducted, or when they paid their dues, but that moment in which they truly connected to the mission of service and realized that they wanted to be of service to their community. It is a transformative moment shared by over 1.4 million people in 200 countries of the world. However, I believe that it is not a permanent transformation. You have to decide to be a Lion each and every single day. Every day we must rise and decide to follow the mission of Lions, uphold the code of ethics of Lions, and dedicate ourselves to the purpose of Lions. It is then, and only then, that you truly become a Lion. With our daily commitment to the values of Lions Clubs International, we are reborn. I love this association with every fiber of my being. I want to see it flourish and grow in every community in the world because I have seen the impact it has had upon my community and want to witness the transformative power of service improve the lives of every single human being on the planet. The recent global pandemic has posed significant challenges to how we, as Lions, can grow our association and can continue to serve our communities. I truly believe we have the leadership and skills necessary to meet and face these challenges, but it is going to take every single one of us living the mission, upholding the code of ethics, and dedicating ourselves to the purpose in order to succeed. Did you wake up this morning and decide to be a Lion? Are your actions today going to be helping support the mission of Lions? Are the words you speak, write, and post in line with the code of ethics of Lions? Are you going to ensure that everything you do today helps fulfill the purpose of Lions? The moment you identify yourself as a Lion to the community you serve, you become a representative and ambassador of our global association. Are you leading by example? Are your words and deeds creating a public image of Lions that is attractive to new members? Freedom of speech is one of the most important things in this entire world. Every human being should have the right to express their opinions, and be free to have their own belief systems, whether they are political or religious. We must create the world we want to live in. Words have power. They have the power to unite, and the power to divide. It is up to us to choose how we use them. Do you want Lions Clubs International to grow and flourish? Decide to be a Lion today. Decide to be a Lion each and every single day. Make the choice to live the mission, uphold the code of ethics, and dedicate yourself to the purpose of Lions and you will quickly discover that you will not be the only one in your community making the choice to become a Lion. United We Stand, Divided We Fall, We Serve. #UnitedWeStand #WeServe

20.01.2022 We received this heartwarming email that was too good not to share. Proud to be a Lion "Dear Lions Club, I am writing this email to acknowledge and applaud th...e selfless commitment to community spirit displayed by one of your members. Paul* and his wife have been our next door neighbours for the last three and half years, and their warm and supportive nature has been evident from day one; since meeting Paul and Julie we have been in awe at their selflessness and willingness to help others in particular our family. To put it simply, we owe a debt of gratitude to their family. I would like to say that I only recently became aware Paul was a member of Lions. My grandfather was a member of the Lions Club New Norfolk branch. He unfortunately passed away when I was a teenager. I remember my grandfather being a kind and helpful man, good with his hands and tools, keen to teach those willing to learn very much like Paul. It is because of these two men that I now associate noble and selfless qualities with that of the Lions Club. Your members are a true credit to your organisation. I note that one purpose of the Lions Club is ‘to encourage service-minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward’. I can attest that Paul truly lives this purpose. The time and effort Paul has dedicated towards helping my family is nothing short of astounding. We have been very humbled by Paul’s generosity and we do not know how to ever repay his kindness. Paul serves without the expectation of personal financial reward and has stated on numerous occasions that he enjoys helping people. Paul often brushes away praise by stating that since he doesn’t play golf he needs something else to occupy his time! I sincerely believe that the two words I have used most in Paul’s presence is ‘Thank You’. Paul is also a great family man and represents the role model I want to be for my children and community. Kind regards, John*" *Names have been changed #LionsAustralia #WeServe #Always
20.01.2022 Happy #NationalVolunteerWeek! This year's theme is 'recognise, reconnect, reimagine' and it couldn't be more fitting for Lions as we look towards our 75th anniv...ersary in Australia. It's a time for us to recognise the incredible ways our members have been serving and giving back to our communities since 1947. Now is the time for us to reconnect as an organisation. After a difficult 2020, we are grateful that our clubs are reconnecting in-person, and we feel incredibly privileged to be able to do so. It also provides us with the opportunity to reimagine how we continue to serve - to think about the future, adapt and grow as individual clubs and as an organisation. Happy National Volunteer Week! Thank you for all that you do.

11.12.2021 It's World Cancer Day and we believe every child deserves a chance at a healthy life. Every year in Australia, almost 800 kids are diagnosed with cancers, many ...of them aggressive, hard to treat and with a high risk of mortality. The Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation (ALCCRF) is on a mission to cure Childhood Cancer. The ALCCRF has helped fund over 10 major projects to date which has not only supported vital research but has also helped save lives. Lions Clubs from around the country have also worked incredibly hard to raise funds for the foundation, hosting BBQs and events each year. This #WorldCancerDay, we're thinking of all the people that are battling cancer and their families. For more info about how you can join the fight against childhood cancer, visit https://alccrf.lions.org.au/.
