My husband and I bought our first home, a one bedroom unit back during the GFC when interest rates were high. It was hard being a first home buyer back then so in order to get a loan we sold both of our cars Fortunately a friend gave my husband an ancient ute with no air con #grateful and well I went without a car for 3 whole years so we could renovate and buy again. It was designed with two pull-out laundry hamper drawers and loads of bench space for folding, washing baskets and let’s be honest, whatever else finds its way into the laundry! It even has room to do my ironing, store my ironing board (a mistake I learnt from in the last house) and power points in the exact place I need them @the.palm.co... 22.01.2022 Is a butler’s pantry on your must have list? Personally, it’s where I like to keep all my cooking mess from large pots, to pans and Tupperware. In this home, I decided on the Franke Undermount Double Bowl Sink. The left side is for the dirty dishes, right side to wash and I made sure I left plenty of room for drying too.... I am big on cooking and with a family of 5, a large butler’s pantry with a door to hide all the mess is just what I needed. I also use these drawers to hide my piles of ironing so it’s not sitting around in the laundry basket for days creating mess. Who else can’t keep on top of the never-ending washing pile? 20.01.2022 Call me crazy but as soon as I saw these chairs from Lounge Lovers, I just knew I needed them for my main living area. I don’t normally choose white to go in a highly used room however the main lounge is a very family friendly colour and it’s where the kids always sit. The chairs are strictly a no-go zone for the kids though! Just in case they do, I have sprayed the fabric with protect me, a natural fabric protector by @protectmeproducts and so far, so good. 17.01.2022 Pay close attention to those gorgeous rattan pendants from @House of Orange, Amsterdam Design Warehouse It was important to have mood lighting over the dining table and these lights are usually the last ones to be turned off at the end of the night Whilst we mostly use the light switch in the kitchen to turn them off and on we also have a two way switch near the fireplace which is on the way to our bedroom. Why? Because we dont want to turn them off and walk to b...ed in the dark Details like this make living in your home so much easier. We have used the Clipsal by Schneider Electric Clipspec Design Service a few times now and it is AWESOME. The consultants are specialised and have great recommendations about practical things we dont often think about. The kitchen-living-dining areas are always a crowd pleaser and we think you’ll be well pleased with the cosy country cottage design ideas we’ve achieved throughout the kitchen and the rest of the living space. When creating a dream home, natural light should always be a pr...iority across the main living areas. To maximise this, we strategically designed the living areas and alfresco to be north oriented. We didn’t stop there; in fact we took it one step further. Given our kitchen didn’t sit on an external wall, we thought it only fitting to add a gorgeous skylight with wait for ita curved void (if you know you know)! With working from home her norm and the kids needing help with homework Sarah had 3 things in mind she wanted..... . A large enough desk to fit 2-3 people working side by side comfortably.... 05.01.2022 Our most controversial decision in the house was whether to put a fireplace in. The stone wall was actually designed to include one however we made the call to not put one inside the home but rather outside in the alfresco and I’m so glad we did. We thought about this decision long and hard and this is how we came to the conclusion in the end:... 1. If we added a fireplace, we could no longer place our TV in the desired location on the wall. It would sit too high and you would lose the effect of all the beautiful stone. 2. This whole room has large windows on the north, east, and west. This captures the morning, midday and afternoon sun, making the room naturally warm in winter. 3. This room has polished concrete floors and concrete has thermal mass properties. As the sun warms up the concrete, it retains that heat, keeping the room inherently warm. Are we happy with our decision after living in the home? YES, the room is simply stunning and naturally warm from the sun in Winter and we just know we wouldn’t have really used the fireplace very much.
