25.01.2022 The jewel in the crown! Our 2018 Oakdene Single Vineyard Lizs Chardonnay was our top scoring wine at 96 points in this years Halliday Wine Companion and we couldnt be more proud! Ned Goodwin said - Stunning chardonnay! Unabashedly rich, but tensile, energetic and incredibly long. The stone fruit references and notes of dried mango are almost sublimated by a saline maritime freshness, beautifully appointed oak and Meursault-like suggestions of toasted hazelnut and curd. Oakdenes tattoo of intensity of flavour melded by quality fruit, a fine site and a deft winemaking hand.

23.01.2022 Pruning is done! We did things a little different this year and the whole team got in on the act! We all learned how to spur and cane prune, wrap down, train. Usually skills reserved for the vineyard crew! And we got it finished. It is so rewarding to know that we have all contributed to the next years vintage, to see how it all comes together and its really enjoyable work! ... This is the Shiraz at the Lighthouse vineyard. Next year is going to be great.

16.01.2022 If you love a good Grigio, then this, right here is a great example of the style! This is our 2019, hand harvested, Bellarine Peninsula Pinot Grigio. Ned Goodwin gave us this brilliant review in the 2021 Halliday Wine Companion, 91 points - "Straight-up quality grigio and no, this is not an oxymoron. Tarte tatin, nashi pear and cinnamon glaze spurt across a juicy plume of a finish. Eminently satisfying"

15.01.2022 FLAGSHIP WINE Oakdene Single Vineyard Peta's Pinot Noir. Filled with red fruit notes, cherry, plum and spice. Rated 94 points in the 2021 Halliday Wine Companion. Here is what he had to say "An ambient ferment in open-top pots, smattered with 20% whole-bunch, before completion in French barriques (30% new). The result is a rich pinot with a spicy brood and pallid hue. Cherry cola, root spice and satsuma plum notes billow across a hinge of woodsy tannins, earthen scents an...d cardamon to turmeric-soused acidity" (Ned Goodwin) This is a fine example of a Geelong region, cool climate Pinot Noir.

Sparkling for those cheesy moments, Chardonnay for roast chicken, Pinot Gris for pork... and then some reds to sink your teeth into... Petas Pinot Noir for lamb and root vegetables and then Shiraz to go with anything slow cooked. Which one are you taking home?

14.01.2022 Whilst we are on the topic of Shiraz from the past week, here is a fantastic review of our delicious 2018 Bellarine Peninsula Shiraz from Huon Hooke. Medium to deep red/purple colour, with a complex spicy, vegetal and floral aroma, very aromatic and lifted - possibly whole-bunchy. The palate is rich and sweet-fruited, succulent and fruity but not simple in the slightest. The flavour is exotic and delicious. How can a wine this tasty be this cheap?! Thanks Huon!

13.01.2022 Oakdene Single Vineyard Shiraz review recently added to Gourmet Traveller WINE expert tasting panel. In a blind tasting, heres what was said: 2017 Oakdene William Shiraz is showing attractive development, which has brought a savoury bouquet of leather and chocolate. Pritzker found, A stemmy, savoury bouquet with hints of rose petal and blackberry. Medium bodied, offering layers of complexity. Paterson added, An assertive wine with dark fruit characters. Strong black pepper flavours. Acidity brings drive to the palate and, while theres an intriguing combination of flavours now, Pritzker added that it, needs time to unfurl.

13.01.2022 One of our most popular wines (and one of the most popular varieties anywhere at the moment), is this 2019 Oakdene Single Vineyard Ly Ly Pinot Gris. Coming in at 94 points in the 2021 Halliday Wine Companion, and marked with the red star for wines considered to offer special value for money. It also comes with this great review by Ned Goodwin. This mid-weighted gris has been treated with as much love and care as any in the land. Oak, nicely worked into the fray, imparts tex...tural detail, while conferring a structural authority to riffs of bitter almond, marzipan, baking spice and ripe apple. Long, pointed and intense of flavour. We simply think it is delicious!

12.01.2022 It is so pleasing to see Chardonnay gaining evermore popularity. These two, right here, have been literally walking out the door for a long time now and are probably at the top of the favourites list! Differing levels of oak and flavours are occurring here, from the creamy and buttery, to the light and crisp, but each one is an excellent representation of the style.... I love them both!

11.01.2022 The Geelong region is becoming so well known for its fine examples of Shiraz, and this 2018 Bellarine Peninsula Shiraz is a perfect example of what we are making from the regions cool climate. Rated 95 points in the 2021 Halliday Wine Companion, listed in the Top 100 and given the red star for special value. Here's what James had to say: 'Open-fermented in small pots, then matured in French oak for 11 months. A most attractive assemblage of bright, supple red and purple fruits, the oak hovering but not threatening the fruit, the tannins exemplary, the pinch of spice well selected.'

05.01.2022 How stunning was the weather last week while we were pruning?! This block is our young Pinot Noir, and it is currently being trained to get the optimal fruit over the next vintages and into the future. Even though it is cold, we all enjoy getting out there to help, moving around and knowing that we are contributing to the next years harvest.... The 2021 harvest will be a beauty!

04.01.2022 The 2019 Bellarine Peninsula Pinot Grigio. Light, refreshing, crunchy. Delicious. We hand picked this one. The weather was awful. The crop was massive and it took HOURS! But the whole team, the WHOLE team got out there and picked this. It’s a Grigio kind of evening I think.

04.01.2022 We are delighted to have received this review from Huon Hooke at The Real Review for our 2018 Jessica Sauvignon. 93 points and ranked #1 of 20 Sauvignon Blancs tasted in Victoria. Light, bright yellow colour. The aromas are very fresh and fragrant: feijoa, passionfruit varietal notes intertwined with subtle cashew-nutty oak nuances and the faintest sweaty note. The palate is delicate, finely-textured and dry, the finish clean and harmonious, lingering and refreshing, with cleansing acid in balance, finished off by a subtle trace of tannin grip. The aftertaste is tangy and mouthwatering. A very smart sauvignon blanc. (100% barrel fermented and aged for 8 months in French oak barriques, 15% new).

03.01.2022 Thoroughly enjoyed this cracking Shiraz on a little road trip recently. The nose of white pepper, spice and abundant black and red fruits leads to a palate of slightly sappy whole bunch notes and savoury dark berry fruit characters, licorice and spice. We hand pick a portion of the berries for this Shiraz and include them as whole bunches in the winemaking process giving a good amount of body and depth.... Delish and absolutely perfect to warm up with on those cold evenings.

03.01.2022 It is so easy to be confused by the differences between Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio, but they are wines made in two very different styles! Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio are in fact the exact same grape variety, a white grape, with a greyish / pinkish skin (Grey in French and Grigio in Italian) simply harvested at different points of maturity. Pinot Gris, picked at the later end of harvest, tends to be more full-bodied, richer, spicier, and more viscous in texture. In our case (...with the use of some French oak) tends to have greater cellaring and ageing potential. The immensely popular, Italian style Pinot Grigio, is picked early to retain acidity and fresh fruit-driven characters is typically lighter-bodied, crisp, fresh, with vibrant nashi pear and floral aromas. Oakdene has both a Gris and Grigio that hold a great deal of favour with the crowds. Two different styles, two amazing wines.
