14.01.2022 Tyzone puts little Quinlow on the map! It's really been a fairytale racing weekend. Not only are our good friends and Oakey Veterinary Hospital clients Wally and Jill Gleeson the breeders of the amazing Rothfire - winner of the G1 JJ Atkins and the standout 2YO of the season - but Tyzone - the other big Group One Winner of the Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm yesterday was born and bred at Joe and Jen Summerfields' Blue Hills farm at Quinlow, one of those blink-and-you-miss... it tiny towns north of Oakey on the Darling Downs. The Summerfields have long been valued clients of ours and we couldn't be more thrilled for them, since they have now achieved the remarkable honour of having born and bred both Tyrone (G1) and Miss Cover Girl (G1) along with trainer Helen Page's tough racehorse Rudy (G2 and G3) just for good measure. It's a tough old business breeding the big black type horses and we happen to be proudly old school - no matter how many folk might step up to claim the glory when it comes to producing the big race winners, we believe in giving credit where it's due. There's an old saying 'failure is an orphan but success has many mothers' but it seems to us that its the breeders that must be acknowledged, celebrated and congratulated first and foremost because without them - we simply wouldn't have an industry. So here's our heartfelt congratulations to both the Gleeson and the Sommerfield families, the genuine hands-on, small farm, small time breeders out there in the Queensland bush for their fantastic results on what was a remarkable Black Type Saturday in June. It's the right kind of tonic we all needed right now.

10.01.2022 Friends, we believe this is appalling and completely unAustralian. The Victorian Labor-left Government has now sanctioned the slaughter-from-the-comfort-of-a-helicopter of all the Snowy Mountain Brumbies. This must be stopped for all sorts of reasons - humane, ethical, cultural and just plain common sense. Please join the movement and help us stop this violent and horrifying insanity. (Remember, even fruit bats are protected. Can somebody explain how this works?)

10.01.2022 Congratulations to Chinchillas' Gleeson family on a big day out at the races! Rothfire - the Thrilla from Chinchilla - won the prestigious JJ Atkins Group 1 at Eagle Farm yesterday by three and a half lengths - his seventh win out of eight starts as a 2YO. So here's a sensational young racehorse who was rejected by agents from both MM and Inglis as not being good enough for their sales, not handsome enough, not well bred enough, not from one of the big fancy studs who is m...aking them all look stupid. So where were the theorists, syndicators, agents, trainers and experts on this one? There's only one truth in the horse breeding business. Nobody really has a clue. Greatness can come from anywhere - and it does, over and over again. Our congratulations to our good friends and longtime clients Wally and Jill Gleeson and their three sons - you bloody beauty! Gleeson T'breds (@GleesonTbreds) Tweeted: Thank you ROTHFIRE! Our first Group 1 runner, a winner of QLD premier 2yo race the JJ Atkins. Here is the video sent to Rob Heathcote almost exactly a year ago. He bought him without seeing him. Can you tell he is a Group 1 winner from this?! https://t.co/mTGPOize9r https://twitter.com/GleesonTbre/status/1269158347082612737

07.01.2022 This is amazing! Mrs Hedgehog and her little family.

05.01.2022 Everyone, David and I are keenly aware of the mental health issues that everyone is facing right now. We have supported RU OK as one of our favourite charities for years. Times are going to be a little bit tough for awhile but we know we can make it through as long as we help each other and stand by our friends. Kindness is faith in action. ... We ask that you share this fantastic new Mental Wellness 'Mentamia' App developed by John Kirwin, an All Blacks Rugby legend and discussed by our good friend Alan Jones on his show this week. Awareness is good, but it's only the first step. The reality is that we need to find the real tools to help. This is one of them - and it's absolutely free. We want you not only to survive - we want you to THRIVE. Love and strength Heather and David x

05.01.2022 The thoroughbred breeding industry on the Darling Downs has a spring in its step today after the magnificent victory of Rothfire in the Run for the Roses in Sydney yesterday. The plain brown gelding they call The Thrilla from Chinchilla put some of the hottest 3YO's in Australia to the sword with his definitive win yesterday. Our congratulations to our good friends and clients Wally and Jill Gleeson and their three sons who make up the ownership of Gleeson Thoroughbred, bree...ders of Rothfire. We couldn't be happier for you all. It's exactly the tonic that everyone needs right now to see a battlers horse step up to the giddy heights of big time racing. Rothfire is on track for The Everest - the worlds richest race - and we think we will all be needing the smelling salts to settle our nerves by then! .

04.01.2022 Such a special photo of the legendary Hazelwood Conman and Terry Hall. We look forward to another big season working with this champion sire and making more special babies for all our good clients.

03.01.2022 MEET OUR MOST IMPORTANT VISITOR! This handsome young male koala dropped in at the hospital a few days ago and stayed in a time-honoured gun tree that Koalas have been visiting for years. It's been awhile since we have seen koalas here and this young male created quite a sensation with everyone here who loves nature and our beautiful Australian fauna. Please keep an eye out for koalas and do your best to help preserve a sadly endangered species. (Photo: thanks to Mrs Joy Pascoe)
