23.01.2022 Posted @withregram @auscontinence Whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or already have a baby, research shows that when you do your pelvic floor exercises, your pelvic floor muscles will recover faster and will also help reduce your risk of bladder and bowel problems. Our pregnancy guide contains information about bladder and bowel control during pregnancy and after childbirth, and explains the role of the pelvic floor muscles and how to exercise them. Click the link in our bio to access the pregnancy guide and make a positive change today.

20.01.2022 I love this post from our friends at Pelvicfloorexercise.com! Posted @withregram @pelvicfloorexercise Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: It's a new year and that usually means you feel you have to make some New Year Resolutions Often that involves 'getting fit' or 'losing weight'... Nothing wrong with either of those goals but : you can't go from 0-90 in one go Sometimes when you start running, you also start leaking Research tells us that leaking during exercise is one of the main reasons women in particular stop exercising, and when you stop exercising you tend to put on weight and lose muscle strength BUT! guess what? these are leading causes of Urinary Incontinence in women, and the cycle continues SO- see a pelvic floor Physio who can guide you safely back into exercise and set you up with a pessary if needed and if you only leak a little bit or only with exercise, an interim measure can be a Contiform urethral support. You should still get your pelvic floor sorted but Contiform can help keep you dry Visit our website to purchase Contiform

15.01.2022 How well do you know your hormones Our hormones fluctuate throughout our menstrual cycle; and we may feel this with different moods and emotions. But did you know our hormones affect our collagen and therefore our laxity of our ligaments!!!! ... There are two types of collagen- Type I and Type III. The majority of collagen in ligaments is Type I which provides tissue stability and strength. Type III collagen is more elastic. During our mensural cycle our oestrogen levels change and peak just before ovulation. Studies have shown that oestrogen causes a decrease in Type I and an increase in Type III collagen - causing an increase in ligament laxity. Therefore, at different times of the month, we are more at risk of injury. This may also account for differences in symptoms of incontinence and prolapse. The same is said for pregnancy and post partum. During pregnancy our oestrogen is high and therefore our type 1 collagen is lower, making ligaments more lax in preparation for birth. In the post partum period, our oestrogen drops rapidly- possibly allowing our bodies to naturally heal in regards to DRAM and prolapse. It has been shown that DRAM naturally heals up until 8 weeks- which is when oestrogen usually starts to rise again. Our bodies are fascinating!!!! Thank them and look after them for all they do for us naturally.

11.01.2022 What are pelvic floor muscles???? You’ve probably all heard of them... but do you really know where they are; what they do; and how to control them? As seen in the picture, your pelvic floor muscles consist of a deep layer of muscles that attach from your public bone to your tail bone. There is also a layer that surrounds your urethra and your anus. When functioning well, they help to control bladder and bowel and support your internal organs such as bladder, bowe...l and uterus. They also have a role in sexual function. If you have symptoms of incontinence of bladder or bowel, prolapse (feeling of bulging/ heaviness/ dragging) or pain with sexual intercourse- you may have pelvic floor dysfunction contributing to these symptoms. Your pelvic floor can either be weak, have poor coordination or it can actually be hypertonic- which means you can’t relax your pelvic floor well. Therefore- basic pelvic floor exercises that many woman are told to do, won’t help- and may actually make your symptoms worsen. Therefore if you have any of the above symptoms, it’s a great idea to see your pelvic floor physiotherapist for a proper assessment and treatment plan. #pelvicfloorphysio #helpisoutthere #oakflats #physio

10.01.2022 After a crazy year and no time off from work since last Christmas- I am taking the opportunity to have a few days R & R with the family. I won’t be back until Wednesday the 23rd September. This is when I will return phone calls and emails. Have a great weekend.

09.01.2022 Pelvic Pain May is Pelvic Pain awareness month. Chronic pelvic pain is a complex condition that can have multiple causes. Sometimes, a single disorder may be identified as the cause.... In other cases, however, pain may be the result of several medical conditions such as endometriosis, PCOS and interstitial cystitis. Symptoms may include lower abdominal pain/cramping, pain with intercourse, constipation or painful bowel motions and urinary incontinence. Often, the pelvic floor is overactive which can be contributing to your symptoms; therefore seeing a Pelvic Health Physio can help manage your pain and symptoms, helping to improve your quality of life. So remember, these symptoms are common- but not normal; and help is out there. #pelvichealth #physio #oakflatsphysiotherapy #womenshealth #pelvicpain
