24.01.2022 How lucky are we to have such diverse wildlife on the Oaklands Estate. These two dropped by for breakfast this morning - we've all enjoyed hearing their laughter for many weeks now....they must love it here as much as we do.

18.01.2022 Absolutely thrilled this week to see the new heritage sign at the Oaklands Estate Reserve installed by Marion Council. Next time you are walking near the car park at the rear of the Wetlands do stop and have a read.

15.01.2022 PROPOSED CHANGE OF NAME FOR RAILWAY STATION Our residents may not be aware that a Notice of Intention to Alter the Name to a Place under the Geographical Names Act 1991 was published on 6th December 2018 indicating the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government is seeking public comment on a proposal to alter the name of the Oaklands Railway Station to Marion Centre Railway Station. The reason behind a proposed name change is so that the station name better a...ligns with the surrounding shopping, recreational, cultural and administrative centre of the City of Marion. It has also been stated that this proposed change will also assist commuters who do not live in the neighbourhood with a better identification of where the train station servicing this area is located. Some weeks ago we noted in the press a suggestion the Marion Railway Station name should be changed, however this does not appear to be part of the proposal at present. If you feel strongly about this proposal you can make a personal submission in writing to the Surveyor-General, GPO Box 1354, Adelaide, SA 5001 or e-Mail [email protected] by 5th January 2019. The plan for the naming proposal can be viewed on the Land Services website: www.sa.gov.au/landservices/namingproposals All submissions will be considered on their merits only, the number of submissions received is not a strong influencing factor, but rather it is the reasons or rationale provided in a submission for support or opposition of the proposed name change that will be taken into consideration.
13.01.2022 As one year ends and another begins reflect and celebrate your achievements of 2019 and look forward to celebrating many more in 2020. May you and your family enjoy good health, happiness and a great New Year.
11.01.2022 The weather this week has been glorious and the birds you see when you walk around our estate are beautiful.

07.01.2022 CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY Come and join us at 9.30 a.m. on Sunday 3rd March for about an hour as we clean up the Oaklands Estate as part of Clean Up Australia Day. We will leave from Minchinbury Terrace (Marion Road end) and clean up along the railway line verge working our way to the Reserve.... Wear your gardening gloves and closed shoes. Bags will be supplied. This will be our fifth year of participation in this worthwhile event - mark it on your calendar now. We hope to see you there.
05.01.2022 Hello everyone Marion Council is asking residents to nominate a footpath in their area in need of repairs...you have until 29th May to let them know. So on your next walk take a photo of a footpath you see which poses a safety risk, such as a tripping hazard, and let them know the location. Visit makingmarion.com.au to include your nomination. Council will inspect and assess every nominated footpath and upgrade work will begin on 1st July 2020.... Great initiative by Council to keep us safe when out walking.

02.01.2022 Spring has come to the Oaklands Estate Reserve and Oaklands Wetlands. There have been many people (families and children particularly) taking the opportunity to walk and take in all of the changes resulting from the upgrade undertaken by Marion Council contractors during the winter months. Kudos goes to the Council staff who last week did some finishing off works. The plantings in front of the toilet block particularly have transformed the entrance to the Reserve. We are privileged to have such a magnificent outdoor space right on our doorstep. The plantings undertaken by the Friends of the Sturt River Landcare Group over the last five years are well established in both the Wetlands and the Reserve as you can see from the photos.
