24.01.2022 "Painting is self-discovery. Every good artist paints what he is." Jackson Pollock (1912-56) Over the last few weeks the Kangaroo children have been exploring the work of Jackson Pollock. The children viewed some of his artwork via the internet and we discussed the artworks we liked and didn't like. We also listened to Jackson Pollock talk about how he created his artwork. The children made their own individual splatter art before contributing to a group piece that they wor...ked on over a week. Each day a new layer of colour was added. This gave the children an insight into how art can be a long process that may take days or weeks. 23.01.2022 The children in the Joeys Room are becoming increasingly independent and taking responsibility for their physical wellbeing by engaging in self-selected activities incorporating complex movements. Some of our babies have started walking unsupported whilst others carry on their journey to achieving this major milestone by seeking support from walkers, furniture or educators who help them to move along in their environment. It is great to see children challenging themselves and... taking considered risks to improve their skills and showing pride in their efforts. Learning outcomes: 1.2 Children develop their emerging autonomy, inter-dependence, resilience and sense of agency. 3.2 Children take increasing responsibility for their own health and physical wellbeing. 4.4 Children resource their own learning through connecting with people, place, technologies and natural and processed materials. #oaklandschildcare #childcare #earlychildhoodeducation #earlylearning #EYLF #playbasedlearning

23.01.2022 The Kindy children were provided with a picture checklist of different insects. The idea was for the children to work together to find as many insects as they could in our garden. It was very exciting and involved the children looking high and low. They were searching under rocks, through the bark mulch, on the trunks of the trees and in the branches, in the sand pit and up in the sky. Some of the creatures they found included ants, stinkbugs, moths, lizards and even a spider.... 22.01.2022 The Kangaroo children have been exploring patterns. They decided to use the mini blocks to create patterns of their own. Much of mathematics is based on patterns. Being able to see and read patterns helps children to see relationships and make generalisations. Understanding and identifying patterns allows children to make assumptions and hypothesise. It also helps in the development of skills such as critical thinking and logic. QKLG: Communicating. 20.01.2022 This term the Kangaroo children are exploring engineering. To start the term off the children have been learning about the importance of plans in engineering. They have been making plans of what they are going to build before building with the wooden blocks. This has allowed them to focus their thoughts and has resulted in some creative buildings as they test their engineering knowledge and develop their problem solving skills. To give the children some experience with th...e real life application of plans we have been investigating house plans. As a whole group we have looked at the technical drawings builders use when building a house. In small groups the children have looked at simpler house plans and tried to decipher the pictures and words to work out where different rooms in the house are located. 19.01.2022 The children of the Joeys Room have been enjoying playing in the sandpit. They love feeling the grains of sand between their fingers and toes, finding leaves and twigs hiding in the sand and digging using their hands, a rake, or a shovel. Playing in the sandpit allows them to engage socially with their peers. They learn about playing together and sharing resources and also enjoy simply observing their friends at play. The babies love to copy their educators by trying to make ...sand castles. They let out a cry to let us know when they want us to help them add more sand so they can squish the sandcastle with their hands. The babies have become confident in climbing in and out of the sandpit by themselves which makes it easier for them to access this area any time they like.
