25.01.2022 SPRING HAS SPRUNG!!! As September begins, we start to see the cold hands of winter ease and the warmth of spring return to the natural world around us. With spring of course, come bees! The tiny creatures who induce fear of two types... the first of being stung..and the second that if they continue to disappear at the current rate the natural world as we know it will be changed (read gone) forever.... Buuuut, lets not get in to that at the moment.. If your dog is unlucky enough to be stung by a bee, here is what to do! https://api-v2.vetcheck.it//bb371736-4d23-4ec7-a64e-c088d1

22.01.2022 Today, one of our team sent me this photo with the comment how pretty is our clinic! Not only did this comment pull on my heart strings as she called the clinic our clinic but it sent me on a journey down memory lane. In October we have been open for 23 years! Ive heard stories of David and Anne-Elise living in the clinic, taking $100 in the first week they were open, working days on end with no break and no help. And being SO excited (and scared!) about the adventure ...they had begun. I have been fortunate enough to be part of the Oakleigh Central Vet for almost 7 years and even in that short time I have seen some huge changes. When I arrived as a very green nurse, taking over a part time role there was no way I could foresee the adventure I was about to embark on. Seven years ago, we had a core team of four and a half staff, today were more than double that! I used to process x-rays manuallywith chemicals and film in a dark room which also doubled as a store room. The washing machine was outside in the dog run and we had laundry hanging from cages most evenings as our dryer couldnt keep up.The hydrobath was in the gravelled, pot holed, car park. We only dreamed about the ultrasound, monitoring and pathology equipment we have now. Four years ago we got a major face lift, gained 50% extra floor space and I still walk around our clinic smiling at how beautiful it is. However although the stuff has changed, the ethos David envisioned when he started this clinic still runs strongly through our team. David has always said he wants a family feeling in the clinic. For clients to feel like friends and their pets as though they are our pets too. For the team, he wants us to know each other, to be able to vent about things from outside of work and then keep on with our jobs with a clear head. I think he has achieved it. Now, more than ever before I am SO proud of our team. Each member fights to make our clinic better, to hold it to a better standard, to bring new information and better ways of doing things. The thing that stands out most to me, is the pride I see in each team member. Pride in the clinic, pride enough to call it our clinic.

19.01.2022 Hey everyone! Unfortunately we are having on going phone issues (possible network related??). People have not only been having trouble with our phones, but also their own when they get to the clinic!! If youre at the clinic trying to call us, please come and tap on the reception window to get our attention! If you are at home trying to call us, please try to call and then send an email instead. Were checking the emails frequently so we dont miss anyone!... Thank you so much for your patience. We believe that there is a big strain on the tele networks at the moment, and a lack of people on the ground to get out and fix things. #thankscovid19

08.01.2022 We had the absolute pleasure of spending a couple of hours with this beautiful baby Tawny Frogmouth the other day. Unfortunately, it looked like this baby had eaten some caustic rat bait and perhaps been then attacked by a cat. Sadly we had to say goodbye to him. Please, please consider our wildlife before using any type of bait and when deciding on a life style for your cat.... Cats MUST BE kept inside from dusk until dawn, and ideally indoors only. #oakleighcentralvet #oakleigh #vet #vetnurse #ilovemyjob #weloveourjobs #weloveanimals #vetnurse #tawnyfrogmouth #australiananimals #australia #wildlife #australianwildlife

08.01.2022 This is Lizzie, she is 12 years and 8 months old. Although she loves us (Im pretty sure) Shes not thrilled about coming in to have her very itchy and sore skin treated. After she has tolerated our treatment and enjoyed our cuddles she packed herself and her lead up and waited at the door for her Mumma. Isnt she beautiful! ... (excuse the fur on the floor... she didnt want to go into the consult room, so we treated her in the waiting area... one of the few bonuses of having no clients in our building)

05.01.2022 How do we have so many stray cats and so few feline toxicities when the list of toxic plants is so long?! (on a side note... If youve got a unwanted cat in your yard... Spray your perimeter with vinegar every few days for a couple of weeks... Cats HATE vinegar. I recently had a cat vs sandpit issue and this worked a treat!) https://www.rspcavic.org/cats-toxic-plants

04.01.2022 Hey everyone, just letting you know were having a few troubles with our phones. Please try to call the clinic, however if youre not able to get through, knock on the reception window if youre in the car park or send us an email if youre at home. Thanks!

01.01.2022 The bond between owners and their pets during these difficult times is stronger than ever before. It can be devastating when pets die for a variety of reasons. Recently unprecedented COVID-19 restrictions have resulted in additional challenges for families when the heart breaking decision of euthanasia needs to be made. Furthermore, pet grief is often disenfranchised which means that the support normally available when a human loved one dies may not be as readily available f...or pet owners. This can make coping with the death of a beloved pet much harder. We would like to introduce you to Doctor Vanessa Rohlf who is a wonderful grief counsellor. She is a counsellor specialising in animal loss and bereavement with over 17 years of experience working in the animal industry. She has a PhD with a specialisation in psychology (human-animal interactions) and has further qualifications in mindfulness, animal bereavement and certification as a compassion fatigue therapist. Vanessa is available by phone or email, or you can visit her website. 0419 322 451 [email protected] drvanessarohlf.com.au
