25.01.2022 Carl Hester talks about self carriage for horse AND rider, and reminds us: Common sense tells us that if something needs to be supple, it can’t be in the same ...position all the time. Stretch the horse Suppleness and stretching take years to get. https://www.horsemagazine.com//carl-hester-on-self-carria/ See more
24.01.2022 WE CAN COACH AGAIN! Thank you EV for all your work and fighting hard for us! We have a waiting list of clients we will contact this week to confirm lessons that will recommence as early as next Tuesday!!! Please allow our phone lines to stay free - we will contact you ASAP
23.01.2022 A COVID safe return to horse riding lessons at Oakwood Riding School. We are absolutely thrilled to share that we can recommence offering horse riding lessons at Oakwood! There are some restrictions that differ from the last time we re-opened so please read the following carefully:... To be eligible to book in a lesson: You must reside or work within a 25km radius of Oakwood Riding School (our office can assist with clarifying this if needed) (if work brings you into the 25km radius you will need to carry your work permit with you) Riders must be able to competently walk, trot and canter off the lunge/independently as our coaches are unable to approach at any point to attach lunging equipment (this is the 1.5m social distancing regulation) All clients will be required to be competent in bridling and adjusting tack on their own (including tightening the girth and adjusting stirrups whilst mounted). (Again this due to your coach abiding by the 1.5m social distancing regulation) Riders need to supply their own riding boots, gloves, whip (if needed) and approved riding helmet as none of these can be borrowed/shared. All of these restrictions do mean that we are unable to book in beginner riders or take on new clients at this stage. However if you have not ridden at Oakwood before and would like to join our waiting list, please email us at [email protected] Lessons are limited to private or semi-private lessons only. No group lessons just yet. We will begin operating from Tuesday the 27th of October and return to our regular open times of Tuesday to Saturday (closed on Sunday and Monday) To our lovely and very patient existing clients, we are currently working away along our list to contact you all about rebooking! We will get to you ASAP :D
23.01.2022 GROUP LESSONS ARE BACK! Equestrian Victoria have worked incredibly hard to fight for us not only as horse owners but as a riding school also - which means we have the most up to date and clear information on restrictions. EV have announce that the latest restrictions easing means that we can conduct group riding lessons again! ... Other restrictions are still in place and are as follows: You must reside or work within a 25km radius of Oakwood Riding School (our office can assist with clarifying this if needed) (if work brings you into the 25km radius you will need to carry your work permit with you) Riders must be able to competently walk, trot and canter off the lunge/independently as our coaches are unable to approach at any point to attach lunging equipment (this is the 1.5m social distancing regulation) All clients will be required to be competent in bridling and adjusting tack on their own (including tightening the girth and adjusting stirrups whilst mounted). (Again this due to your coach abiding by the 1.5m social distancing regulation) Riders need to supply their own riding boots, gloves, whip (if needed) and approved riding helmet as none of these can be borrowed/shared. All of these restrictions do mean that we are still unable to book in beginner riders or take on new clients at this stage. However if you have not ridden at Oakwood before and would like to join our waiting list, please email us at [email protected]
22.01.2022 Hi everyone - we understand there is some excitement over changes to restrictions, however we do not have any clarity as to whether or not we can open for lessons. Once we know for a fact we will make a public post on our social media platforms. We politely ask to not be flooded with phone calls, messages and emails. If you are an existing client or on our wait list you will be contacted by our office as soon as absolutely possible when we can offer lessons

21.01.2022 ORS resident cat Dunkin is saying exactly what is on all of our minds! Big yawn! Team Oakwood are disappointed (however not surprised) with the Victorian Governments roadmap announcement yesterday. Our fingers are crossed that Equestrian Victoria are able to clarify what the roadmap means for horse riders and coaches and we sincerely hope we can get back to doing lessons ASAP!... However we do have some exciting news to share about a new addition to the team. Stay tuned for our upcoming e-news!!

On Friday afternoon, Erin and Bane were involved in a car accident that took their lives. The Oakwood Team and Committee of Management send their condolences to Erin's partner and family during this incredibly difficult time.
16.01.2022 Oakwood is on the lookout for new schoolies! Do you own or know of a horse or pony that would make a terrific school horse? If so, we would love to hear from you! What makes a sensational school horse?... Gelding Any breed, shape & size - we are currently particularly interested in recruiting ponies and galloways. A calm disposition with even temperament - this is most important! No serious vices such as kicking, bucking, rearing. Basic education - we can develop the right horse. We welcome you to make contact with us if you have a horse in mind. Please call us on 9702 6566.
16.01.2022 Another awesome day at Oakwood with 9 riders completing one of our fun-filled beginner days! Some of these riders had never been on a horse and were mastering rising trot, grooming and tacking up by the end of the day Well done everyone!!
14.01.2022 ORS Photo Contest results! We sincerely apologise for the delay in posting these results but hope you all enjoy these photos as much as we did! First, second and third places all shown. Those with placings can collect their ribbons from the Oakwood office when you are here next (or email us to organise postage at [email protected])... Thank you to all entrants for your amazing photos. One of the hardest contests we have ever had to judge!
13.01.2022 waiting waiting waiting for these restrictions to ease to allow us to return to lessons! We are hopeful that the next announcement will mean we can open for lessons. The moment we have good news we will post here on Facebook to alert everyone! Our team predict that it’s possible we will reopen for lessons in stages, like last time. ... This could mean we may temporarily only be able to provide lessons for riders who have proven competence in adjusting their own tack from the ground and whilst mounted, are able to provide their own helmet, boots, gloves and a whip (if necessary) and in private lessons for riders who are independently riding at walk, trot and canter. To clarify further - it might mean beginner riders, groups and lunging lessons may not be available YET. Of course we will continue to update. BUT! In the mean time, if you want to get yourself on our waiting list please email us at [email protected] with your name, age, any prior riding experience, weight, contact details and preferred days/times for your lesson! Existing clients who were riding with us regularly don’t need to get in contact, you all have your original spot saved and ready to go! *Pictured: Amber and Eddy
