24.01.2022 Please check your fruit trees and call DPI hotline if you are concerned. There is early reporting from Bridport also, which suggests that the problem is more widespread than was initially thought.

23.01.2022 See how happy the plants are in the polytunnel. Sweetcorn so advanced mid December is a rarity for Oatlands? Plans for building the polytunnel, which is a local design, can be purchased from the Friends of the Garden for $5. All instructions included with photos and diagrams and information about where to source the materials.

22.01.2022 DOUBLE BAG ALL YOUR FRUIT SCRAPS PLEASE. So this 'recall' of fruit asks you all to double bag all the fruit you're disposing of that was bought in the last few... days, statewide. You're asking this morning: What about at school? (Give your kids some bags) What about locally bought fruit? (bag scraps to be safe) Can I freeze it and compost it? (yes for 24 hours) Boil it and compost it? (yes for ages) Microwave it? (no not reliable) Feed it to the chooks? (no - bag it) How long for? (Until whatever you have in your house now is gone) What are the host fruits? Apples, apricots, bananas, blackberries, capsicums, cherries, figs, grapefruit, mulberries, nashis, nectarines, oranges, peaches, pears, plums, raspberries, strawberries and tomatoes. Here's the FAQs from Biosecurity Tasmania. http://dpipwe.tas.gov.au//Frequently%20Asked%20Questions%2

13.01.2022 Summer plants in the garden. Some of these were started in the hothouse. Most were planted with help from students.

13.01.2022 Thought that these were sweet and would be fun to make with the kids, sorry no tutorial so here goes... 1. Cut a stiff piece of brown cardboard into strips abou...t 1.5 cm wide by 6 cm long. 2. Poke a hole through the top of it to thread the ribbon. 3. Cut ascending lengths of grape vine, twigs and smooth prunings. Glue the largest (about 4 cm long) at the bottom of your little tree leaving 1cm free for a trunk. Trim your next twig a little smaller so that the triangular shape of the tree is built up and keep going until you reach just below the hole that you made. 4. Thread a piece of glittery ribbon through the hole so that it looks like a star on your tree. 5. For extra sparkle (if required) add a little glue to your branches and sprinkle (careful with eyes) a little glitter as frost. Any other ideas on how to do this better would be great...If you have any please share!!!!

03.01.2022 Hello people. Exciting times we are living in. Home schoolers might like to research Victory Gardens. I am busy establishing my own Victory Garden in the back yard at the moment. Would you like to make this a community effort? Your surplus produce can support your neighbours, the activity will burn off excess energy, and there's lots of home schooling opportunities it can support. If we've got any teachers here, perhaps you can make suggestions
