24.01.2022 Stage 5 Dance In Stage 5 Dance students have been learning about DANCE ON FILM. After revising film techniques and viewing examples, students were given the task of producing their own filmed dance. Laura chose to choreograph a dance to 'Party in the USA'. She carefully planned the filming of her dance to create a fun, energetic film. You may also notice a few staff and student cameos throughout the clip. Great job Laura! 24.01.2022 National Science Week 2020 This year we celebrated National Science Week by running a week-long trivia quiz. We explored random facts such as the mites that live on our eyelashes, the names of dwarf planets, and the identity of famous scientists. After the week was over, the winners were Mr Boyd, Lucas * and Ebony Howard for a consistent effort. Science staff weren’t allowed to enter, to give others a chance!... 21.01.2022 Billycart Races! Last Thursday was the completion of a unit where students worked in groups to design and build a Billycart which would be raced during our transition week. They also had to think about the presentation or theme of the cart as well as dressing up and performing their entry to the race. The Projects classes in Yr 8 set up the race rules, track features of the event and managed the presentation on the day. A great day was had by all and thanks to everyone who h...elped out. 21.01.2022 2021 School Captain Induction Congratulations to the newly inducted School Captains and Vice Captains for 2021. The induction of Captains: Ella Brien and Grant Perry along with Vice captains: James Rich and Lucas** took place at the Presentation assembly yesterday afternoon. This achievement is recognition of the outstanding commitment these students have made to our school throughout the time they have been students. I am sure our new leadership team will be able to rise to... the challenge before them with courage, clear focus, passion and determination. They are an enthusiastic and vibrant team of students who I see further developing over the next 12 months. The students were officially presented with their badges by Amber Hibbert (Year Advisor). 20.01.2022 NAIDOC Week Celebrations! Today, students were invited to add yellow to their uniform to acknowledge NAIDOC Week. Celebrations started with the launch of our fantastic banner, which Stage 5 students and Mr Lyle designed. Well done, everyone! Students engaged in Yarning Circle lessons and lunch was a delicious spread of emu, kangaroo, camel and buffalo sausages. Craig Luccarda - Principal
19.01.2022 Remembrance Day! Last Wednesday, School Captains, Ella and Grant represented our school during the Remembrance Day town ceremony at the cenotaph. They laid a wreath in honour of our service personnel who did not return. Back at school our other Captains, Lucas and James, staff and students paid their respects with a commemorative address, the Ode and National Anthem as well as the traditional one minute silence and wreath laying. On display was a new commemorative wall plaq...ue showing the names of local people who served and did not return. 18.01.2022 To War! During a recent History lesson, Year 7 students were transported back to Ancient Rome with a practical activity designed to demonstrate Roman military tactics and explain the reasons for their centuries of domination in battle. The students were keen to get involved, with 7 Red acting as the disciplined Romans and 7 Blue the Barbarian horde. All students had a ball and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to see History in action. ... Cameron Inwood - HSIE Teacher
16.01.2022 Tallest Tower! Year 8 Project Learning students were enjoying themselves whilst developing their teamwork and collaboration skills. Students had 30 minutes to design and construct the tallest possible tower using only paper and some masking tape. Mark Armstrong - Project Learning Teacher

14.01.2022 Year 10 Transition into Senior College Activities Week The students have been exposed to the mandatory training and diverse programs applicable to the Senior College experience. Some of the things that Year 10 are learning about include, assessment knowledge and skills, essay writing, life skills and a range of strategies and developmental skills to conquer the challenges that the students will be faced with in Year’s 11 and 12. 12.01.2022 R U OK? Day! Last Thursday, OHS students and staff supported this fantastic fundraiser for mental health. The school community participated by wearing yellow on the day. 12.01.2022 School Captains 2021 - Develop Skills in Public Speaking Our prospective 2021 Captains and Vice Captains have had the opportunity to develop their public speaking skills with a series of workshops. The workshops involved skills in speaking clearly and presentation. Students also had to deliver prepared and impromptu speeches. 11.01.2022 Spring In The Ag Plot Spring has sprung and the school farm has welcomed some new members. The cute lambs over the last week have captured the hearts of students and staff. The farm is looking lush and green and is well maintained by students, Ms Wiggins and Mr Whalan. 08.01.2022 End of Year Excursions Yesterday, junior students spent the day celebrating the End of Year by attending excursions at Bathurst Ten Pin Bowling Centre, Bathurst PCYC, Mount Panorama and Metro Cinema. Lots of fun was had at these events and it was well deserved after a very different year of learning in 2020. 06.01.2022 O’ Chemistree! O’ Chemistree! The Science, Careers and LOTE faculty would like to wish all students, parents and teachers in the Oberon community a safe, healthy and enjoyable Christmas. This year's Chemistree has a new addition, Christmas lights. Students in the Senior Chemistry class learnt first-hand the names of different equipment, how to name and label chemicals, how to set up a parallel circuit and how to use acid-base indicators to produce this year's tree. 05.01.2022 Farm Vehicle Safety Course Five of our lucky senior students got to spend last Wednesday and Thursday earning a Statement Of Attainment in Quad and Two Wheel Motor Bike Operation. Funded by the Department of Education, and delivered by TAFE Western, Dubbo, students received instruction in the safe use of farm vehicles, and had to pass both theory and practical tests to complete the course. ... All of these students are involved in farm work, so this course was important for them to complete. Thanks also to Oberon Showground for letting us use the grounds. 04.01.2022 Staff Development - Changes for 2021 The Department of Education has altered some of the Staff Development (Pupil Free) Days for 2021. The school year will now commence with two (2) Staff Development Days. This means all students commence school on Friday 29th of January.... Term 2 and Term 3 will continue to have the first day scheduled as a Staff Development Day. There is no change to current practices for these terms. Term 4 will see the two (2) Staff Development Days at the end of the year reduced to one (1). This means the final day for students is Thursday 16th of December. The number of days has not changed however they are now weighted more to the start of the year than the end. Craig Luccarda - Principal
04.01.2022 End of Academic Rollover Celebrations! Last Friday brought the second day of wall-to-wall activities for the students with several stations all offering different activities. Each year group made its way through a sporting session, board games, cards, movies, Minute-To-Win-It mini-games and a Science experiment. All reports on the day suggested that the students had heaps of fun, with the Minute-To-Win-It activities proving particularly popular. A fantastic day to cap off a hectic 2020 school year! 01.01.2022 Year 12 Graduation Friday 27th November was a significant day on the Oberon High School calendar. Year 12 started the day with a formal Graduation assembly at school which was live streamed. Students received their portfolio and awards. In the evening it was the Presentation dinner, held at the RSL. All graduates should be proud of their efforts over the years. Thank you to all who attended and supported the events.
