25.01.2022 A Global Inventory of Perennial Vegetables http://www.perennialsolutions.org/a-global-inventory-of-per
24.01.2022 Very good article! And why I feel that the urban space is the space we need to most focus our design attentions too. Every yard, balcony, street, building is a microclimate in its self or making them around it. Here is the following article too! https://solar.lowtechmagazine.com//reinventing-the-greenho
23.01.2022 Hi everyone. Just though you might like to see the finished product of one of the two jobs I have had on my plate that I’ve been trying to finish... My client Stephen is a magician for children and events and needed some new stackable and transportable performance boxes made to replace his older ones. We took what he liked in the old ones and designed ones that retained these and upgraded the hardware and features to make a more sustainable and lighter yet still strong pair... of boxes. The top box has a soft close draw and a gas strut supported lid that clips closed and a weather seal to keep dust and water out while being transported. It’s about the same as his older top box but as it opens up and fits snugly in the bottom box allows more functionality when he performs. The bottom box is the work horse that house his sound system and technical aspects. It has 4 lockable wheels to make moving them both around and stabilising easier. This bottom box has a hidden shelf that works to keep the doors open and allow extra spaces for having props and puppets and tools handy while he is performing. It was a pleasure to work Casey the spray painter who made the finish using the chosen metallic paint fabulous. It is always so rewarding to find other people who prove to be a real crafts people to work with. Stephen still needs to get his logo and decals for the surfaces that face the audience. Now I can get onto finishing the other project that has taken too long to finish...
20.01.2022 Today I built a recycled pallet service bar for Daithi from Slap and Pickle https://www.facebook.com/SlapandPickleCAIRNS/ for his off site catering. 100% unfinished recycled pallets. 4 parts to make transport easier.
19.01.2022 Please come and visit me at Cairns Made Festival this Saturday from 10am - 4pm. I will have my Linen Chest and one of the chocolates from Old Growth Treats on display and my laptop showing images of many of the furniture and sculptural items I have made.
16.01.2022 A little update... I’ve moved workshop. The new space is fabulous, that I have on my own so I can use it when and how I need to. It’s dry and secure and I can drive right up to the door to unload materials and load up furniture and artworks. Plus it includes an undercover area to assemble large items, a space to grow some food and can be use to get messy with the arbortech and gouges. The new space is not quite organised but it is starting to look like a workshop. I’ll probably have a workshop warming gathering that I will post here.
14.01.2022 Hi everyone. I am planning a working bee and workshop warming gathering. I wanted this to happen in January but a few things has meant that this has slipped past. The date is tbc as there needs to be a few things come together for it but its likely to be in the next few weeks. It would be on a Sunday. I am making this post to see who might be up for helping move some mulch, plant some things and then joining me in a drink to celebrate my new workshop?
13.01.2022 This is exactly what I have been doing at every place that I have lived and for all my design clients since before I read the permaculture handbook in 2002. Since 2009 I have had a small sustainable design business that has focused on food based gardens for small business and domestic homes and sustainable furniture. I bring together tertiary and secondary study, work experience and specialisation in geology, biology, hospitality management, two and three dimensional visual a...rt and design, permaculture design, custom built furniture design and making, small business, 20 years of active cold and warm temperate plus 8 years of tropical and subtropical garden and plant knowledge spanning living and traveling in Australia, Europe, and Indo-pacific region. Site specificity including aspect, geography, climate, geology, biology, hydrology, plants and sculptural relational factors underpin my commitment to aesthetic beauty and environmental sustainability, social justice and well being for us on physical, emotional and spiritual levels. Relying almost purely on word of mouth and referral for my work while also working in formal and normal suburban gardens helps me be able to deliver what I say I will and work with in my abilities and means mostly till recently without owning my own motorised transport. If you want a beautiful rejuvenating edible sanctuary to live and or work in that has impact without the footprint for your family and friends to enjoy with you in Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne inner and outer urban areas then get in touch.
12.01.2022 Only just over 7 hours to support this charity audition about mental health on mental health day. 12.01.2022 Learn how to grow your own. Food is the most important thing in your life it's about time you took it seriously.
10.01.2022 I’ve been busy creating again! Custom built cabinet and shelving for bread and baked product display. Still some finishing touches to be done like clear varnish and blackboard painted signage at the top and the product boards in front of each shelf. Plus a clear acrylic sheet dust collector needs to be cut to size that fits below the bottom shelf sloping diagonally back so the flour and crumbs fall back behind the shelf while in use. You will be able to see the shelves in place soon and I will post an image of it when I have finished varnishing it and the signage boards have been painted with backboard paint.

07.01.2022 Today I was finally able to collect the timber that Will and Bess from Topaz Sustainable Timbers https://www.facebook.com/topazsustainabletimbers/ have provided through their sponsorship so I can continue the Chocolate Box series I started a while back. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/. So besides another project (that I will have photos of soon) that i am very close to finishing and another one that has been delayed more while I manage life in these crazy few weeks and m...onths. So I have plenty to keep me busy if I have to self isolate or we go into lock down. And on that note please take care everyone. Try not to panic and don't let fear stress your immune system any more than it may get, while at the same time please be compassionate. Please practice good sanitation and personal hygiene to help slow down the spread of the virus and being circumspect about where and what you do is wise so that our hospital system can cope. Remember that corona viruses are common even if this variant does pose a higher risk to those with underlying health concerns than similar corona viruses in the past. Use the down time to read some good books, do some gardening, watch the birds, lizards, and or make some art like I will be doing.
06.01.2022 Come down to the Pier and have a look around and see some of the furniture I’ve made over the years and we can have a chat. Even better if you are inspired to commission me to make something for you.
