25.01.2022 A must watch - as a professional conservator, this articulates well, what happens when this happens Also, if you ever wanted to understand more about our profession

24.01.2022 Today, my struggle was real...these chubby fingers trying to construct fiddly supports for shoes Oh my life ...oh, and I burnt my little finger with the hit glue gun . . #aconservatorslife #mysorefinger #storagedrama #gluegunburnsaretheworst #conservators #conservationrehousing #conservator #customisedstorage #archivalmaterials @ North Melbourne, Victoria

22.01.2022 Current Sitch...I will be honest, the last few days have been difficult...coming to grips with a 'no work' situation, facing an uncertainty during the next few months, and the absolute unknown, has really jilted our little whnau. This year was meant to be our year, now we just don't know what that is going to look like... This, for now, is my 'office'... I work for myself, which is okay for the moment...it is hard too, because of the uncertainty; not knowing when business wi...ll return to normal. I never realised just how much our lives revolved around forms of structure, so enmeshed with certainties, combining our kids crazy sporting activities and clubs, working business in and around them, and just how well formed family-life and everything else, for that matter, is/was operating, around/through it all. And, it just stopped... Reflection has been a regular occurrence these past few days...it has probably been the one thing that has kept me sane Now is the time to catch up on other business stuff; the stuff that gets pushed aside during busy times, the books, the website, the reports and all that other stuff. It is also time to slow down and just BE...that quality time we often crave, with kids and our immediates...that time is now. Stay safe all xx . #stayhome #quaranteam #staysafestayhome #rona #conservatorathome #conservator #melbourneconservator #conservatormelbourne #tiakiobjectsconservation #weareinthistogether @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

20.01.2022 Today, I had the privilege of visiting the Australian Sports Musuem VIP event, to check out the newly redeveloped space, before it officially opens to the public tomorrow. Wow!! What a refreshing take on a museum...many pieces, many hands, many people and a vision, which has culminated in this big, beautiful space. This is just me, standing in front of Cathy Freeman's flag, which I mounted for display. One of a number of objects I prepared for for the 'new' museum. So gratef...ul to have worked on this with a lovely bunch of peeps. Loving the space and can't wait to take my kids in for some more play. 20.01.2022 Just a bit if light reading...one day of downtime and back to it...there is always more to be done. After two conference presentations, back to back, I am exhausted...but, the work goes on... for our people...for all of us...centring community voice and repositioning the lens...our stories, our words, our way. . . #pacificpeoples #pacificinmusuems #conservator #pacificculture #decolonisation #pacificvoice #myworkiisnotmine #formypeople #indigenouspride #indigenousvoices #sundayz

19.01.2022 As another year comes to a close and I gear up to see in a new decade, reflections of the last few years of business/life are flooding in fast and strong. The whole reflection thing is new to me - I guess, the whole 'older/wiser' quote reigns in some truth. The 'girl,' I was 3 years ago, took a leap of faith, held up by a desire to take conservation to the world and help others in more meaningful ways, to safeguard cultural heritage for the future. Supported by the strength ...of my whnau, and my 'village', I have juggled business and raising my tamariki - finding a balance that works for all of us. This has not come without ups and downs - it is HARD mahi, but it is so fullfilling. Slowly, a shift is happening...that 'girl' has grown in confidence, is more sure of her strengths and understands more, who she is as a woman. Walking into 2020, I am grateful for the gift of life, of whnau, of love and of courage. I am grateful for the many I have met on this journey - those I work with/for, community, elders, knowledge-holders, cultural practitioners and just straight-up amazing people. Invaluable relationships nurtured through connection that has filled my cup to overflowing. My wairua is right and I am ready to welcome 2020 with my heart, head and mind open to every opportunity. 13.01.2022 When a marble statue is used as a coffee table . . . It really does amaze me sometimes, just how careless one can be...not only is this surface uneven, it is quite obvious that there is no space, nor should there be any space to rest a cup of coffee!!! Because, um SCULPTURE?! And, to add to top it off, there is a perfectly flat surface, not even half a metre from this sculpture...more than suitable to rest any hot/cold liquid; any number of things for that matter... . . #sculpturenotcoffeetable #preservationmatters #stepawayfromtheobject #sculptureconservation #preventiveconservation #conservationcleaning #tiakiobjectsconservation #melbourneconservator See more

10.01.2022 https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2426410497411472&id=100001276351017 I saw this on my cousin's page over the weekend, and I cried. In this video, I saw our tupuna/elders, the many who have lived and stood their ground through generations gone, for what we have today. My heart hurt...the pain is real. This is not right.

09.01.2022 Well, well, what do we have here???!! Hard to tell at first glance, but it does serve a really important purpose. Lot & lots & LOTS of time has been spent stitching these last couple of weeks, preparing a few objects for an upcoming exhibition. 08.01.2022 Glimpses from a nine month long treatment...phew! When I took on this treatment, I knew it would be a challenge. There were many unseen problems, that were only revealed once the frame was opened up and assessed. The frame and photographs, which date back to C. 1902 were is a poor state; insects had been munching on them, the backing had been lost to the elements, the frame was warped and coming apart...it was a mess. However, there were traces of its prior self, in the rema...ining decoration and bronze paint, and the photos were salvageable. As a solo conservator, the logistics of the treatment were tricky as the frame was a good 2.2m x 1.8m, so I relied A LOT on by business partner/partner to help haul things about. The quickest 'manual handling' induction ever!! Last week, I returned the completed work to #lararsl who were glad to see it back. . . #warheritage #conservator #veterans #conservatorsofinstagram #conservators #tiakiobjectsconservation #heritage #frameconservation #preservation #victoriancollections #conservationtreatment @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

08.01.2022 And just like that, another year is done!! The mini me's finish school tomorrow, and the beauty of running my own gig, is that I can shut up shop, to be there for them at the 1:30pm end-of-school bell. It has been a full on year for them, so I owe it to them...and some much needed skin time This journey is amazing and this year has been HECTIC!! There are so many I am grateful for and my gratitude knows no bounds. Without everyone, and there are many, Tiaki Objects Conservation, would not be. Stay safe these holidays. Spend time and make memories with your loved ones. Eat the good food, be merry andd enjoy. We are back on the 6th January; until then, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, see you in 2020

04.01.2022 The long awaited "after treatment" shot.... . . The lighting wasn't working with me, but I'll accept that! I am just glad there was more than just my pair of hands to hold this beast up, so a photo could actually be taken It has taken me this long to sort through the hundreds of images taken post-treatment. Not to mention all of the labelling This grand old piece was delivered back to Lara RSL at the beginning of May, however I still find myself sorting through the docume...ntation that reflects the scale of this work. While a little cautious driving the 113km to the other side of Melbourne to return this, it seemed I needn't have worried as I stabilised it fairly well. So many thanks to those that were giving of their wonderful advice and knowledge - many who don't hang out in social. And the Lara RSL, grateful to be a part if the journey. . . #veteransheritageproject #veteransheritage #lararsl #victoriancollections #AMaGAvic #frameconservation #objectconservatiom #objectsconservation #preservation #conservatoraofinstagram #culaturalheritage #tiakiobjectsconservation @frannyluu

04.01.2022 #storagefordays I made these bad boys a few weeks ago and have been busily blocking in the model, before adding the ends. Such a huge task. Re-housing is serious stuff, especially when I have to climb a step ladder to access them Probably one of my bigger undertakings, but a brilliant opportunity to flex some other 'conservation skill'. 03.01.2022 Love this. A resource developed by SocialFixt, a group in the UK looking to create better representation of BAME (Black, Asian, minority, ethnic) creatives in t...he UK. SOCIALFIXT.org We need this here. My sector feels like snowblindness 90% of the time, except for those pockets of Mori / Pacific / Asian resistance fighters you stumble across, hidden in caves, holding the line, trying to keep each other warm. Lol. Like Planet Hoth, in Empire Strikes Back.
