17.01.2022 Apologies to all if I've been a little hard to get a hold of this last week. After a short stay in hospital, my father passed away last Thursday evening. Since then (as I'm sure you can all appreciate) I've been busy assisting with making arrangements etc. By the end of this week things should be relatively back to normal. Thank you Dad for being there for me and supporting my choice to quit my previous job and follow my passion to start my own detailing business; knowing tha...t I had you in my corner just helped me that little bit more. You were always my inspiration in that regards; for as long as I've been on this Earth you were running your own businesses and setting the example about hard work and supporting your family. Just the fact that you continued to work full-time right up until you were 82 years of age is legend material. Your passing has also served as a bit of a reminder/wake-up-call about the importance of family and friends. I've been fortunate enough to meet many fantastic people through detailing (whether it be fellow detailers or customers), and I cherish the friendships (even if it's just through Facebook) that have been formed as a result. I'm sure you will be keeping an eye on me - I'll do my best to make sure you're always happy with my work!!! Love you always and forever. Dave

11.01.2022 So I decided to remove a previously uploaded video that showed the (paintwork) condition in which a vehicle left a well known dealership in Melbourne's Bayside region. This vehicle has exactly 494km on the clock and had not been washed or in any way touched since leaving the dealership just over two weeks ago. 10.01.2022 So what's Dave up to now that he's no longer detailing?? As you guys may or may not know, for the last couple of years I have been combining the detailing with some chauffeur work for my parents-in-law's business Barton Chauffeurs. As the detailing work got busier through 2015 into 2016 the driving took a back seat. However I have returned to the business in a full-time capacity.... 05.01.2022 UPDATE - And the saga continues!! - I've had it confirmed that it was an anonymous email complaint made to council, it wasn't any of my neighbours. I've also since found out that some other detailers have also received similar anonymous notices of complaint. So it would appear there is somebody out there with an agenda which I find reprehensible and completely unprofessional. - Purely by coincidence, our landlord has also decided to renovate and then move back in to our house.... So we've been given notice to vacate our house. - As a result, Obsession Automotive Detailing is now officially CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. As much as I would have loved to work through until July 19th as originally intended, we really have to find somewhere else to live first! So the garage is now already half-full of moving boxes and furniture :-( - The workshop hunt continues also :) hopefully it won't be too long before I have some good news to share with you all! #fingerscrossed Dave

04.01.2022 Dear customers, colleagues, family and friends, After several sleepless nights and numerous discussions with those close to me, I have decided at the present time to no longer go ahead with a planned relocation to a workshop, and to close the business down for the foreseeable future. This is NOT a decision I have arrived at lightly at all, and I have no shame in admitting that several tears were shed during this process.... I love detailing cars. I love seeing the look on my customers' faces when they arrive to collect their vehicles. I love wiping off polish residue and seeing a perfect, blemish free paint surface. I love how washing a car makes me feel relaxed. However with a change in circumstances has come a time to re-assess some life goals - where I want to be and how I'm going to get there. I feel that currently I would not be able to put in the effort and energy required to take my business to the next level in a workshop setting, yet still have enough time to spend with my young family. Over the past year or so, the number of days that I'd 'written off' because I was knackered after completing a big job was quite high, and not something that could continue with the added financial pressure and commitment of a workshop and all the costs that entails. An obvious alternative would be to go 'mobile' - however as I've touched on previously, I don't feel that I'd be able to reproduce the extremely high standards that I demand from myself, which in the end would not be fair to my customers. So for now, the journey has paused. I won't say 'ended', because who knows - perhaps in 12-24 months' time I'll be in a better position to make the necessary commitment to do things the way I want to without compromise. However for now I need to put my family first, and moving to something that gives me a better work/life balance will be most beneficial in the near future. To everyone - thank you for your support over the past six-and-a-half years. I've worked on some amazing vehicles and made plenty of new friends and acquaintances along the way.
