More often than not, low back pain leading up to or during your period is nothing to sinister to overthink and can often be managed with NSAID’s + OTC pain relief, a nice heat pack, some gentle exercise or mobility and maybe even just resting However, if severe and crippling enough, it can be signs of something potentially nastier, like: Endometriosis - where the endometrial lining grow outside the uterus Cervical Stenosis - an unusually small opening of the cervix, blocking the normal rate of blood flow and therefore creating increased pressure in the uterus Uterine Fibroids - a non-cancerous growth on the wall of the uterus *please keep in mind that low back pain is just 1 common and associated symptom of these conditions* If you find yourself in this more severe category, seek advice from your GP or Obstetrician/Gynaecologists! 19.01.2022 Just to reiterate from the other day... As a lot of your are aware by now, per Dan Andrews’ press conference, reinforcements of Stage 3 restrictions are back in action for regional and rural Vic. Now, DHHS has states the Myotherapy as an allied health service CAN remain open. However, as a practitioner, I do find myself placed in an ethical rock and a hard place position...... This puts me to decision that the clinic will be as of: Wednesday 5th August Appointments that are ALREADY booked past this date, I will honour (I will be in contact with those who have appointments) Online bookings will be disabled for the time being The clinic will be shut for 2 WEEKS from - to organise everything. Re-assessing to reopen after this with altered days/hours, in accordance with DHHS guidelines. I will keep everyone up to date with any changes. It breaks my heart to have to do this AGAIN, but there are RULES and I’m doing my part to follow them and help flatten the curve and beat this damn thing We have to stick together (bad choice of words....?) to get through this. Please respect the rules. Please wear masks when you can. Please be kind to each other. Online consults WILL BE AVAILABLE in this time for anyone! Also, I will be available if anyone needs anything from pain management, mobility advice etc to just a chat and friendly advice. Please don’t hesitate to contact me. Please stay safe everyone I’ll see you all on the other side. Be good

19.01.2022 You might read this post and think - why does it matter? As long as a treatment makes you feel better, it's not important how it works, right? Well that depends...! Let's say you have back pain and have been told that one of your discs or back is out of alignment. That belief means that every time you have a relapse, you believe you must see a therapist to have it "put back in", otherwise it won't get better. You might be scared to do gentle exercises or your every day tasks, in case you make it come out again! It may make you scared to move, fearing that you have an unstable spine, imagining something similar to a fracture. This fear and belief does NOT help your recovery! Your brain will be on red alert protection mode, provoking pain responses to guard against anything that might worsen the instability. You see your therapist, they "put it back in" and you feel better. Until next week. Because if in the back of your mind you still have this deep seated fear that there is something fundamentally wrong with your skeletal system, any twinge is likely to set your brain off to guard that part of your body. So yes, how you understand your diagnosis, and the impact of your treatment really DOES matter! The goal of physical therapy is to get you better, not rely on maintenance treatments. SHOULD you have a relapse, we will give you the tools, education and strengthening exercises to ensure you are confident to self treat and manage the flare up. #myotherapymelbourne #myotherapy #myotherapist #myotherapists #alliedhealth #injuries #painmanagememt #painscience #sportsmedicine #movementculture #movementismedicine #myoactive #myo #sports #sportmanagement #softtissue #chiropractic #osteopathy
