10.01.2022 #HAZARDWARNING Reduced operations during #COVID19 has meant little to no occupancy over an extended period of time in some workplaces. Businesses where water us...age has been reduced and water inside pipework and other systems has become stagnant are encouraged to review their Legionella risk management system. Water left in water systems could change in quality and increase the risk of microbial hazards. Always consult your water treatment provider to discuss the need for potential remedial action. . . The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) has issued an Advisory Note which provides guidance on managing building water systems prior to re-occupying a building after COVID-19 restrictions, including flushing the water system before the building reopens. 06.01.2022 Is your business meeting the new workplace exposure standards for respirable crystalline silica? The new exposure standard has reduced from a time-weighted aver...age airborne concentration of 0.1 milligram per cubic metre (mg/m3) to 0.05 mg/m3. Respirable crystalline silica dust is so fine you usually cant see it. It can stay airborne for long periods of time and easily be inhaled deep into the lungs. Any work that uses materials containing crystalline silica and generates fine dust has the potential to expose workers to respirable crystalline silica. This includes high-energy processes such as cutting, sawing, grinding, drilling, polishing, scabbling and crushing of silica-containing materials. Visit our website for resources and advice to control respirable crystalline silica dust and protect your workers.
