25.01.2022 Commercial // Cafe Biggs on Beaumont Street is finally open and serving coffee. #cafedesign #holeinthewall #cafearchitecture #architecturenewcastle #newcastledesigners

22.01.2022 Commercial // Refurbishment Progress A quick site visit to check out the improvements and progress the building team have made to the foyer. As you can see already the space looks more modern and fresh. Can’t wait to see the timber stairs go in. #commercialconstruction #renovation #newcastlearchitecture #newcastlensw

21.01.2022 Renovation // Residential The XO Construction lads are ripping into this Carrington cottage. The living space is going to be a huge improvement. #renovation #newcastlensw #architecturedesign

21.01.2022 Renovation // Commercial Sometimes you find a hidden gem. Lurking behind the suspended ceiling tiles sat an ornate expressed structural cladding!!!Although the original has been damaged with service penetrations there is an authenticity & history here we simply can not recreate with new materials. The challenge now is to repair & then somehow blend in the penetrations to not draw attention but also not hide the somewhat clumsy services. #renovation @ Newcastle, New South Wales

19.01.2022 Planning // Objections Sometimes you need to defend your investment from developments that are pushing the rules or your patience. We recently have helped clients with helping them understand the proposal & then provided them with diagrams to support their submission to Council. There is a lot of power in a diagram to illustrate the effects of poor design. Particularly when not everybody understands plans, rules or the words in a document. While it might not be successful clients have certainly hammered the point home. What else can you do? #planning #newcastledevelopments

16.01.2022 Renovation // Commercial Things are starting to take shape now. We have all worked to respect the old & replace what was hidden away. Can’t wait to see it painted. @maric_build @mcdonaldstructural @ Commonwealth Hotel Newcastle

15.01.2022 Tectonic // Future This is not our building but we wish it was. Why? Tall timber construction using large laminated engineered timber posts, beams, trusses, joists & jumbo ply panels is environmentally responsible & economically sensible. While the materials cost is comparable the speed of construction with significantly reduced trades & tradespeople is highly desirable. Well done University of Newcastle for being the first in the region to use this tectonic.

15.01.2022 Commercial // Cafe And then there the times your clients go a little rouge. #streetart #cafe #cafedesign #commercialdesign #newcastlensw

14.01.2022 Renovation // Commercial The new bar is taking shape @commonwealthhotelnewcastle . The bar is faithful to the original era with new reproduction tiles to match the old. @earpbros have done very well. @ Commonwealth Hotel Newcastle

14.01.2022 Renovation// Approved #Happy owners #renovation #newcastlensw @ Newcastle, New South Wales

14.01.2022 Commercial // Renovation It’s good to see a completed second bathroom in an 90’s shared commercial space. Our brief was to make it feel modern, fresh and have a edge of high quality. I think we achieved that without blowing the budget. @earpbros #bathroomdesign #bathroomrenovation #commercialconstruction

13.01.2022 Because sometimes Friday afternoons at your desk call for it...

10.01.2022 Progress // Renovation A quick site visit to see how a commercial restroom renovation is shaping up. So far the large format tile is looking really good. The aim is to lift the image for the tenants from early 90’s utilitarian to contemporary corporate. What do you think? Good so far? @earpbros #bathroomdesign #bathroomrenovation #architecture #newcastlensw @ Newcastle, New South Wales

08.01.2022 Renovation // Residential Site visit & measure this morning for a new extension and renovation of this 2.5 bedroom home. Fun client with a fun brief. Stay tuned #renovation #newcastlensw

08.01.2022 Commercial // Refit This small shop fit out is now ready for a new beginning. We had assisted our client redesign the old pie shop into a restaurant that was approved by Council but Covid put an end to those plans. Now as a warm shell the space will soon become a barber shop. Quite a nice outcome for a grand old building. #commercialconstruction #commercialdesign #architectsnewcastle #shopfitout #NewcastleNSW #renovations

06.01.2022 Concept // Residential Today I’ve been working with some great clients to open up their cottage and create more space for their growing family. In this option we would remove two walls and move three walls. The changes to the original layout is quite minimal but the result will feel very different. We have kept & enhanced the strong idea of a division between public & private spaces. Lack of storage is an issue so we will use some open shelving as divisions. Cant wait to see where we end up in this fun design process. #renovation #residentialdesign #homeremodeling

06.01.2022 Cafe // Build Progress This project has been a long time coming. Dealing with State Rail then electricity supply has been a big challenge for both Occupy Architecture & the client. Patience will eventually pay off for this hole in the wall cafe which we hope will be open before Christmas... as long as State Rail sort out electricity supply! @fnddevitisbuilding has the facade looking sharp with anti-graffiti on the fibre cement sheet cut & fixed to look like tiles. These are matched with new windows and a fresh pelmet. Only half done & it is already a vast improvement to the high foot traffic space. Can’t wait to see the facade treatment & interior. #café #cafedesign #newcastlensw

05.01.2022 Commercial // Renovation Inching closer to beer o’clock @commonwealthhotelnewcastle #pubrefurbishment #pubrenovation #bardesign #newcastlensw

01.01.2022 Remembering // Aldo Patzau House 1963 100 years ago today the architect behind Australia’s Parliament House was born in Rome. Romaldo Giurgola’s legacy extends far beyond this magnificent work of architecture though. You only need to take a look at some of Aldo’s portfolio to see he was a rare talent. His ideas & teachings have shaped many of the worlds best architects & many who live or lived in Canberra. I was lucky enough to meet & discuss my university work with Aldo whe...n he visited after hours to meet with a few students & his good friend Ann Cleary. I’m now embarrassed by what I discussed with him as I was so naive but I still remember the conversations as they were so compelling. Australia was lucky to have him choose to call Canberra his home. https://instagram.com/rememberingaldo?igshid=iq75e540yop5
