25.01.2022 The ocean is a gorgeous treasure. And it needs your help. Join us on our adventure to the Solomon islands, where we will educate and inspire the local children about the wonders at their doorstep. Our underwater and wildlife filmmaker Jordan Del will be documenting the entire trip and creating a film to bring to you as of the end of the project.... If you want to help us raise funds for our plane tickets and educational resources for children, click the link to support and donate! 24.01.2022 The Oceans Christmas tree! Deposited straight from the waves after the baby shark that had been growing inside, broke free to begin its life in the sea. No plastic branches, and no trees cut down! Hope everyone is enjoying this day whether it's with friends, family or spending time in nature @sharkcartoons... Too early to put up a Christmas tree? Can anyone identify this shark egg case? #Shaaark #sharkegg #christmastree #shark #fingalbay #sharkconservation #christmas #oceanconservation #environment #saveoursharks #plasticfree #saynotoplastic

20.01.2022 After a couple of weeks of decomposition, I found what killed the critically endangered Hawksbill turtle I picked up from Putty Beach while volunteering for Australian Seabird Rescue Central Coast Not even the microorganisms and bacteria in the soil can eat plastic and here is the piece of balloon and what looks to be a rubber band that was responsible for causing what was most likely 'floating syndrome' where plastic debris after being ingested, blocks the digestive tract ca...using a build up of gases in turtles. When a balloon is released and reaches the atmosphere, it bursts into a shape that looks like a jellyfish, turtle's favourite prey. This turtle was unfortunately found after it had drowned, floating lifelessly in the water at Putty Beach, but it's suffering would have been prolonged as it would not have been able to dive and forage for food. Six out of seven of the sea turtle species found worldwide are facing extinction, listed as threatened to critically endangered. The next time you see a piece of plastic on the beach, please pick it up and dispose of it properly, as it only takes a small amount to harm marine life and there is an awful lot of plastic being produced and thrown away. Better yet, reduce plastic use by switching to natural and reusable alternatives and stop buying products wrapped or made of plastic such as balloons. If everyone made these simple changes to their habits and lives, we could have an incredible impact and potentially save the beautiful species that inhabit the oceans . . . . #plasticfree #plastic #pollution #oceanconservation #saynotoplastic #saveourseas #take3forthesea #zerowaste #waronwaste #seaturtle #environment #conservation

12.01.2022 Kids have taken the cause on and unanimously are changing the world in big profound ways. We ARE the most powerful thing on this planet. And what we choose to do with that power affects all of our futures. - Rob Stewart

09.01.2022 The Ocean Bloom Project brings the possibility of an ever thriving ocean environment into the foreground for kids, inspiring appreciation and awe for under sea life! We will provide a vibrant platform for kids to explore the utter wonder, beauty and importance of the ocean, through live music, film, games and interactive education about the amazing underwater life that surrounds their home. The project will touch on subjects such as the plastic pollution effecting the seas ...and what can be done on a community level to help conserve their beautiful environment. We want to offer a holistic understanding of the environment, whilst endeavouring to inspire communities deeply to work together as young warriors who stand to protect our beautiful ocean for generations to come. You can help us on our journey by supporting The Ocean Bloom Project on our Chuffed campaign https://chuffed.org/project/oceanbloomproject Our logo art by Jesse Griffiths Revello

02.01.2022 For the past few days I've had this gorgeous pelican in care with what we thought at first was botulism, but actually turned out to be toxic poisoning from inge...sting oil that he must have swum through and had accumulated on his feathers. This caused all sorts of secondary symptoms for the poor guy such as lice, worms, loss of feathers, abrasions from using his wings as walking sticks etc. and it all made him very sick. Every four hours I rehydrated him and after having shots of antibiotics from our lovely ASRCC vet Kate and receiving deworming medication from our wonderful neighbor/vet nurse Mimi Calvin and Kincumber Veterinary Hospital who have been so amazingly helpful, Simon was feeling much better! Today I gave him a thorough clean using some natural dish washing liquid to remove the oil, then he earned himself a swim after I battled to keep him still for so long while I rinsed his feathers off when clearly he just wanted to go in the pool on such a hot day. Being a trained carer and volunteer for Australian Seabird Rescue Central Coast is always such a rewarding experience. Wishing him well on his rehabilitation journey as he moves out of the shower and into another amazing carers aviary to gain more weight before release. See more
