24.01.2022 This is our new ATV which was donated by Mud Man Mark but needed a heap of work to clean it up and get it going again. In stepped Guy Budgeon and wow, what a difference. New tray, lights, seat, floor, lots of cleaning and lots of hours. Next we'll get a restricted use registration on it and then we can use it for some of our clean ups. She will fit in Salter!!!
24.01.2022 We have lots of caps that need sorting so if you are keen to join the crew, please sign up using our events pages either through Facebook or direct through www.oceancrusaders.eventbrite.com.au which is where you must book a ticket in order to book a place. We meet every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 0900-1300 at our new yard in Hemmant. BYO morning tea and sense of humour.
24.01.2022 WANTED - BOAT STORAGE SUNSHINE COAST. We need a place to store our 4.5m work boat Slogger. It would be picked up Wednesday morning each week and dropped back Thursday mid afternoon, otherwise it just sits there. Will look at any location however close to Woombyne would be perfect.
24.01.2022 Testing for new products for our Caps Crusade is progressing. These pictures show the first trials of our granules in a crab pot float mould. As you can see the handle and tie on point didn't quite work on the first settings so next week they will try a hotter and longer setting to try and fill out these areas, however the guys conducting the tirals are happy with this result considering usually roto moulded products need a finer powder like granule than what they have used... here. It is very encouraging that the plastics industry and BR Plastics are looking at this as an option for the future and 'giving it a go' rather than putting it in the too hard basket. From first impressions, if we put the granules through a mill to create a powder and add in the UV stabiliser, I believe we will be on a winner and would be able to do this with 100% recycled plastic. Stay tuned for updates. See more
23.01.2022 152,000kgs and 7 hardcore days to go in 2020. Still some spots available. Www.oceancrusaders.eventbrite.com.au is where you can find all the details. And don't forget the bottle cap sorting every Tuesday & Thursday.
23.01.2022 We have just 8 events left for this financial year and all but one of the events has space on it. We really do need your help as there is so much to do in these events to finish off this program. There are two days in Redland Bay, 3 more days out at St Helena Island and 3 more days at Luggage Point. Sign up today at www.OceanCrusaders.Eventbrite.com.au to make a difference.
23.01.2022 Having won the Australian Sailing - Queensland award for Sustainability, we were nominated in the Australian Sailing awards and are a finalist. We will find out the winner later in October.
23.01.2022 Mariners Way in Bundaberg is now cleaner by 960kg thanks to Sally, Chase and Mark. Check out how the mangroves dealt with a stray wire fence. Bundaberg Regional Council Bundaberg Now
22.01.2022 Mammoth day in Bundaberg today with Kim, Erin, Chase and Mark. 3 loads totalling 1.78 tonne. First load was general waste scattered through mangroves (no picture), 2nd was 2 pontoons we pulled out using our new portable capstan winch and the 3rd was a camper that Mark enjoyed cutting up. The pontoons are going back to Brisbane to be reused. The last photo is the truck and boat loaded. A lot of bulk waste gone from the environment. Tiring but very satisfying. 22.01.2022 We get lots of volunteers helping us out but Thursday we had some VIP'S with Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, Cr Lisa Atwood and Councillor Adam Allan. Great to see them get stuck in snd see what we see. Thanks to the Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd for funding the day through their community grants program.
22.01.2022 This morning we joined parters Pearl Global Limited at Norwell Motorplex to see where tyres we pull out of waterways end up. Together with Austek Asphalt Services they are putting Queensland tyres into Queensland roads creating a stronger and longer lasting road. This needs to be mandated in every government procurement for roads. https://youtu.be/e7DIJjqNNA4
21.01.2022 A big week of media last week will culminate in 9news Brisbane tonight running a feature on us so tune in at 6 tonight
21.01.2022 The iconic bridge of Bundaberg with the awesome crew from today's 1,220kg clean up along Saltwater Creek and the northern banks of the Burnett River opposite town. Lots of 'street'' rubbish today so hard work filling the boat. Thanks to Paula, Chase, Cameron and Mud Man for an epic effort. You can join us tomorrow at Axam Road North Bundaberg at 0800 and lend a hand. An hour or two will all help to get these banks clean before the wet season. Bundaberg Regional Council Bundaberg Now
20.01.2022 You can help us keep doing this without getting dirty. All donations are now Tax Deductible. You can make a one off donation to one of our campaigns or make regular donations. Visit www.oceancrusaders.org/donate today and get tax relief whilst relieving our oceans of debris.
20.01.2022 An awesome crew today. Removed 960kg from the mangroves at the northern end of Brown's Inlet. Back for more tomorrow. Thanks to Stuart Robert MP for funding this weekend through the Federal Government's Community Environment Program.
19.01.2022 Day one of our Brisbane International Cruise Terminal project funded by a grant from IFM Investors through the Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd saw 4 port workers from the environmental team join us for the morning to remove 232kg of debris from a section of river we cleaned just 2 months ago. These clean ups will now occur fortnightly until our new SPARC (Solar Power Automatic River Cleaner) is installed in late January and will then revert to monthly. That way we can gauge the effectiveness of the SPARC.
19.01.2022 This was on last nights news, just in case you missed it.
18.01.2022 Tax time is fast approaching. Did you know that donations to Ocean Crusaders are tax deductible. So this June, you can not only save on taxes, you can help clean our oceans as we are about to build another boat to put a second team on the water. We've had a kick start with a grant from the Queensland Government's Gambling Community Benefit Fund providing $35,000 thanks to Joan Pease MP, however we want to raise more funds to get the perfect boat, a 5.7m version of our bigger boat Salter. To contribute to the new boat donate todat at https://www.mycause.com.au//tax-deductible-donations-for-a
17.01.2022 Ah, EOFY! Just when we get to think about tax-time all over again! Given that donations to Ocean Crusaders are tax-deductible, we are contacting local businesses that might be in a position to financially support us in our mission to duplicate our hardcore cleaning crew. And to put our automatic river cleaner into the water. Do you know of any ethical business that we should contact to see how we could work together?... Do you have details of someone who'd appreciate us reaching out? Please do drop us a message if you know someone.
17.01.2022 Want some cool threads, most made with recycled materials, then check out this offer. Forget Black Friday and go Ocean Week and support our cause.
16.01.2022 15 November and summer is well and truly here! But still, the waterway cleaning goes on. Today we kicked off our Breakfast Creek campaign with a Paddle Against Plastic We had our entire fleet of kayaks in the water (plus some BYO) and around 40 volunteers take off into the creek, banks and mangroves to remove a fantastic amount of rubbish ... Everyone pitched in and when you have ~20 boats in the water, and each brings back a full bag of rubbish, it makes a big pile by the end of the event. We'll have the official weigh-in tomorrow, but that pile looks to us to be nearly half a tonne! Not bad for a couple hours, hey? PLUS: We now have found out where the big, heavy stuff is for our hardcore clean with the barge over the next two days. We have locations for batteries, abandoned sheds and yeeted scooters + trolleys. A big thank you to Trevor Evans MP and the Federal Government's Community Environment Program for making this possible. Here's a few photos of the legends who came along to make a difference today!
14.01.2022 We've been joined by some of Dropbear Adventures Fraser Island friends and staff the last few days. Positive people giving up their weekend to clean k'Gari. And they worked hard to remove over 1.5 tonne in just 2 days between 19 of us all up. Thanks so much to Fraser Coast Regional Council for giving us the funding to give the island this much needed attention after recent events.
13.01.2022 Bit light on volunteers for the next two Sundays which will finish our year off, so last chance to play with the hardcore crew in 2020. Book tickets at www.oceancrusaders.eventbrite.com.au
12.01.2022 The untold story of the recent fires on k'Gari (Fraser Island)
11.01.2022 A quick video explaining the tricky questions you may have in regards to bottle cap recycling with Ocean Crusaders! If you have any further questions, or would like to get more involved with the program - whether that be via volunteering, donating or becoming a Collection Point - please send us an email at [email protected] ! Happy Recycling!... Video credit and editing by the amazing Thomas at OC!
10.01.2022 A small team of 3 today, but it didn't stop us cleaning 860kg from just 500m of coast just south of Horizon Shores Marina. So many beer bottles and cans, either from houseboats or boats passing through. We've got to do better Queenslanders. Thanks to Layne (Litter Legends) & Deb for the hard work and Stuart Robert MP for funding us through the Federal Government's Community Environment Program. We're back out of Jacob's Well tomorrow and would like a few more sets of hands.
10.01.2022 What type of straw do you use?
10.01.2022 Back in Bundaberg and first load is on truck b4 lunch. Bundaberg Regional Council
10.01.2022 To everyone of our volunteers and supporters, thank you for an outstanding year and we hope you have a magical Christmas.
10.01.2022 We spent the afternoon Trolley Fishing under a pontoon. 16 trolleys and if catching fish was that easy, our oceans would be empty. 1,480kg in total for the day. Thanks to Erin, Chase, James and Mark for the assist. Mad Mud Man Mark put today's fishing adventures up there with our bike fishing in the Yarra!!!
08.01.2022 First of all, let me say, we are politically neutral. The waterways of Australia need additional funding for debris removal and this is a great start. Wouldn't it be nice if all parties committed to clean oceans? https://www.facebook.com/114150970305956/posts/181944953526557/
07.01.2022 k'Gari (Fraser Island) may have had a rough trot lately but she is open for business. Local businesses on the island are struggling with cancellations but most of the island, including Lake Mackenzie, Eli Creek, Chamagne Pools and Central Station are all unaffected. Do yourself and the island a favour and call the team at Beachcamp Eco Retreat on K'gari - Fraser Island and book a holiday this summer. Don't have a 4wd, they do. I guarantee it will be a trip you will never forget.
07.01.2022 Inspiring email of the day. Here are some photos of the children's work from Rosies Early Learning in Daisy Hill QLD, who have been engaging in a project about plastic pollution in the Ocean. The work eventuated when the children were asked the question "If you were the Prime Minister, what would you do?" One of the children answered I would stop the plastic in the ocean, so the Turtles didn't get sick" Initially the children thought that the plastic just came from rubbish ...that people dropped on the beach but over time with a clean-up week, research and learning through play they discovered that the issue comes from their own front door. They learnt about the power of reusing and recycling and got their families and community involved. We began a bottle collection and raised $40, which we have donated to your work at Ocean Crusaders. At the end of the term the children wanted to create a legacy art piece to leave behind at Rosies as they headed off to 'big school'. The children decided that they wanted to create an artwork made from rubbish and created a coral reef after their discovery about coral bleaching. The work at Rosies Early Learning strongly promotes children to feel empowered to have a voice and to have a vision of themselves as changemakers which we hope will carry them through their life knowing that they can make a difference to matters that influence their world, where they see injustice, unfairness and concerns surrounding sustainability and the Eco system. Education for sustainable development is a life-wide and lifelong endeavour which challenges individuals, institutions and societies to view tomorrow as a day that belongs to all of us, or it will not belong to anyone. 07.01.2022 An impromptu clean up weekend at k'Gari (Fraser Island) saw 720kg of debris removed from beaches south of Eurong. Today we're heading north to Yidney Rocks. Weekend wouldn't be possible without support of the amazing Dropbear Adventures Fraser Island and funding from Fraser Coast Regional Council

06.01.2022 Today we completed a lap of St Helena to check the high tide line for new debris, picked up some more tyres and then retrieved an old axle set up. Thanks to Wendy, Ken and Pieter we removed 740kg of debris with funding provided by the Federal Government's Landcare program through Healthy Land and Water
06.01.2022 Today we've picked up 100,000's of cleanrd and sorted caps from Steve who runs Forest Lakes Mens Shed. This has come about due to our partnership with Lids for Kids. Storage Choice Sumner Park had donated the storage space and now these caps will be processed into crab pot floats and bricks. Www.oceancrusaders.org/recycling
05.01.2022 The fabulous 4 joined me today back at Brown's Inlet to remove another 820kg. Didn't get to big boat, needs to be dug out and cut up so we'll do that in 2 weeks time. Thanks to Grace and Deb who attended both days for the weekend and Kim & Jaquie. It was hard work today but still managed to fill the boat.
