We had our first river swim in Minnamurra with Swim Minnamurra River swimmers Angela, Angela and Pete, and you wouldnt believe how clear the water was! It was Jules turn to swim in Gerringong with the Werri Point Swimmers where we... learnt the group had a member who flew helicopters and found secret swim spots Next, we crossed into Sydney and met up with the Shark Island Psycho Swimmers in Cronulla who were carrying around petrol cans and tipping the contents over themselves after their swim... Before we left the Shire, we stopped off for a chat with 2 x Australian Ironman Champion Robert Chappo Chapman to pick his brain about surf swimming Once we hit the city we had to bring the average age down, so we caught up with Ali from the Babewatch crew and learnt about the amazing things theyre doing to support mental health To round off this group, we headed to Bondi to talk to the human newspaper headline and ocean swimming historian and marathon swimmer Cyril Baldock You can meet our podcast guests and listen to a snippet of their interview here https://oceanf.it/onshore The full interviews will feature on our upcoming podcast which were putting the finishing touches on. 02.01.2022 On 29 May 2021, you can Swim the Gold Coast... all 21.5km of it! Swim the Gold Coast is a 21.5km open water swim, from Coolangatta Beach in the South to the iconic cityscape of Surfers Paradise in the North. The event sold out in a hurry when it launched, but with the COVID-related cancellation in 2020, most swimmers chose to roll their entry over to 2021. Some, however, had to withdraw and those spots are now on sale through the World Series Swims website. So, it’s not too l...ate to book a spot! BOOK NOW: http://worldseriesswims.com.au/swim-the-gold-coast The course follows the famous ‘GC’ coastline from start to finish, so there are plenty of landmarks along the way make sure you’re breathing left! From Coolangatta, you’ll swim North past Kirra Beach with planes landing in the background, then past the distinctive Elephant Rock near Currumbin Alley. Burleigh Headland is next and this is a key checkpoint it’s also the 11km mark and just over halfway. Here the course takes a dog-leg turn and stays parallel with the coastline on to Broadbeach this is where the backdrop changes, quite dramatically. The finish line is located just North of the unmistakable Q1 building it makes for quite the line of sign marker form out on course! With so few opportunities available to tackle a 20km distance in Australia, especially on the East Coast, the event was an instant hit with marathon swimmers, especially those preparing for an English Channel crossing. However, it’s the team categories that are the popular ones there are two-person and four-person team options available. The full distance can be broken up into any number of legs, so teams can rotate swimmers as much as they like. If teams have one member who wants a 10km stretch, that makes it easy for the other three! There are now some well-known teams emerging too with ex Olympic sprinters Michael Klim and Andrew Lauterstein joining forces in a Team of Four. Bondi Lifeguard Deano Gladstone is teaming up with pro-surfer and YouTube sensation Alex Hayes as a Duo Team and one of the event sponsors, Engine Swim, has already confirmed they’ll be selecting some of their top surf sports athletes to take on the inaugural event this lot might take some beating! There are still limited spots available it WILL sell out at some point, but it’s NOT sold out yet! #stepup Swim the Gold Coast World Series Swims #openwaterswimming #oceanswimming #marathonswims #englishchannelswim

01.01.2022 Do you change your stroke when swimming through chop? There are two things you can try to help swim more efficiently: (1) switch to a higher hand recovery, like swinging to the side, and (2) either lengthening your glide to slice through the chop, or shortening your stroke to match the rhythm of the chop. Whichever works best for you remember to always keep your head down in a neutral position. 01.01.2022 Hands up. The first thing you learn about how to body surf is getting your body position right. Tuck your head in nice and streamline and stretch those arms up and legs out like someone's stretching you long ways. You want to be as stiff as a surfboard. This will increase your surface area, and help you float and skim across the surface of the water. Body surfing.
