25.01.2022 Welcome to our fourth week of weekly profiles! If you would like to be featured in our parkrun profiles send us a message or if there is someone you would like to nominate, send us a message and we will get in touch with them. Name: Monica Clemow... My first parkrun was also the first Ocean Grove Parkrun on 28/4/18. Since then Ive completed 36 parkruns, mostly at Ocean Grove. The 2020 plan is to make it to 50 parkruns, fingers crossed that I can squeeze in 14 parkruns in the 35 weeks left in 2020. On the volunteer front its been great to step out of my comfort zone and learn new tasks. Parkrun provides great resources for volunteer roles and the encouragement from other volunteers is fantastic, special mention to our stellar Run Directors. Barcode scanning and timekeeper roles fit well with my love of spreadsheets and trivia. Meeting the other volunteers and participants is one of my Parkrun highlights. Its great fun hanging out at the start/finish line getting to know people as we wait for the participants to run over the line. My goal is to volunteer at least 1 out of every 4 runs, basically once a month. Other Parkrun highlights include meeting people from all over the world, visiting different parkruns, coffee after parkrun (lately Ive switched to a tumeric latte) and participating even when the weather is challenging. In January 2019, when Ocean Grove Parkrun was in recess, my Parkrun buddies and I dabbled in Parkrun tourism and participated at Balyang, Portarlington and Timboon. The furthest Ive travelled for Parkrun is Mildura Weir, and the largest event Ive attended was Albert Park. Im not yet at the point of organising my weekend travel so I can visit a new Parkrun but there is a bucket list which includes Pakapakanthi in South Australia (where I grew up) and Sewerby Parkrun in the UK, where I hope to visit in 2021. My NENDY is Torquay and my wilson index is 1. Im not sure what that means, but Torquay is now on my bucket list.

23.01.2022 Hello to all the Ocean Grove parkrun regulars. How did everyone go this morning, did anyone still get up and do a non parkrun parkrun 5km, show us your pics of your first unofficial parkrun isolation 5km. This is Murphy and I out on the very busy rail trail for our 5km at 8am.

22.01.2022 Hello to all Ocean Grove parkrun devotees. Its now been two weeks since we have been able to get together at parkrun, so your event team have thought that now would be a great opportunity to meet some of our local parkrun people by starting weekly profiles. This week we will start with Geoff Wiffen. Geoff is the Regional parkrun Ambassador that assisted the team in getting our event off the ground. For those that have not met Geoff, he is certainly the one to ask about anyt...hing related to parkrun and especially the one to talk to about all the non official parkrun clubs that are out there, so if anyone wishes to know more about the unofficial clubs and touristing drop Geoff a note. If you would like to be featured in our parkrun profiles, simply answer the questions in the comments and message or email them to us with a photo of you. Alternatively, if there is someone you would like to nominate, send us a message and we will get in touch with them. Name: Geoff Wiffen When was you first parkrun event? 12th September 2012 which was event number 4 at Balyang Sanctuary How many events have you completed? 302 Have you done any Volunteering at parkrun. Yes I have volunteered on 65 Occasions. What is your favourite volunteer role? So far my favourite role has been as Guide runner. Balyang Sanctuary had a visually impaired runner that needed a guide, I was trained by the Achillies group in Melbourne as a Guide Runner and am available as a guide for any visiting visually impaired runners at our local events. What do you love about parkrun? I love the community feel and the equality of everyone, whether you are a fast runner, a slow runner, a jogger a walker , everyone is equal and made to feel most welcome . Have you been a parkrun tourist before? If yes, where was your favourite? Oh my where do I start. I have visited 72 different parkrun events, these locations include, Vic, Qld, NSW, SA and Tasmania. I have also done the pilgrimage to Bushy parkrun where parkrun originated in the U.K, Ireland, Malaysia and the U.S. I have just recently cancelled my holiday which was going to Include Paris parkrun and Etna parkrun in Sicil. Do you have any parkruns on your bucket list that you would love to visit? South Africa is a definite on the bucket list but also somewhere that they run in the snow maybe Russia.

14.01.2022 Welcome to our third week of weekly profiles! If you would like to be featured in our parkrun profiles send us a message or if there is someone you would like to nominate, send us a message and we will get in touch with them. Name : Tina... My first parkrun was as a volunteer at Ocean Grove on 30th June 2018 (winter!!!) doing the finish tokens and since then I have volunteered at 63 events doing nearly everything and in fair weather and foul!! Thinking about it probably my favourite role is either marshal or barcode scanner where you can communicate and encourage every runner/walker with a cheer, clap or just a simple well done! This meeting and making new friends is what makes all parkruns so special. The personal achievements and setting of goals and improvements and eventually getting to that goal is vital for a persons esteem and well being being there and seeing it happen is my happy moment as well!!! The first Christmas we were not allowed to run so I went to Portarlington and volunteered there for 5 weeks. I was made feel so welcome and a part of their team I loved it there too.almost as much as the donuts!!!! I have also volunteered at Townsville on a couple of occasions that was huge with 300 runners each time.the weather was not too hot and everyone got out there to run along the riverbrilliant! The parkrun family is massive and I love being part of it. Someone wanted to know what would I be doing at 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning if I was not at Parkrun??? No idea, but I would be outside somewhere maybe with the grandies!!! My one and only claim to fame is when I was interviewed with Michelle Bridges by the Sunrise team at the first Eastern Gardens parkrun. The opening was big, and the crowd was even bigger and I did give my daughter a surprise when she saw me on the television as she was doing the girls ballet buns!!! The worst moment was when we had to cancel the run at about 7.45 a.m. when we saw lightening on the track.I could not believe my eyes.but it was a lousy morning weatherwise anyway!!!! My goal is to do the tail walkers role and that is what I am working towards over this downtimehalf way there!!! Wont be long and I will be able to get my first participant time!!! It will be fantastic when we get back down to the river I am looking forward to catching up with everyone again stay safe and well until then..

In the mean time we would like to share with you two Apps that you are able to download to your phone. (1) 5K and (2) Runningachievements . In this App there is also a map which shows every parkrun in Australia and shows in red or green which ones you have / have not visited. I would encourage people that are keen to tourist to different events to have some fun and see how many off the unofficial clubs you can join.
