20.01.2022 Context: Social Responsibility Given the community sentiments and national mood at the moment, all teleconferences / virtual meetings on ONSM 2020 are suspended until further notice. Please follow Government advice seriously: STAY home and DO NOT go out unless absolutely necessary!... Reflecting on the planning for the last 18-months, today (10th April) we would have had ONSM 2020 opening ceremony, had it not been for COVID-19! Drastic measures the Australian Government has taken in recent weeks to suppress the spread of the virus reinforce the wise decision we made early on the 10th of March to postpone the event. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the commitment made and support provided for ONSM 2020 by following organisations / institutions / businesses and individuals: 1. Australia Nepal Friendship Society Inc. Canberra including the host state ACT team: For leadership in planning and fund-raising. Contribution made by the State Coordination Committee and Sports Coordinators is acknowledged. Special mention Mr Ashish Sapkota (current president of Canberra Nepalese Football Club) for his unconditional support and assistance. (ONSM), being held on Saturday5 December 2020. In the past, the AGM used to be held during the ONSM event. This year we were, unfortunately, unable to host the event due to the COVID-19Global Pandemic. Hence, adapting to the circumstances, we are holding the AGM virtually. Theme of the AGM this year is institutionalization of the ONSM and strategies for its continuity in to the future and sustainability. In this regard, as a foundation work, we have revised constitution of the ONSM and prepared documentations related to the formal structure and guiding principles of the ONSM. The AGM is expected to discuss and endorse these developments, elect a new Oceania Coordination Committee (OCC) for the next two years (2020-22) as well as announce a new date for the next ONSM event in Canberra. 13.01.2022 Context: COVID-19 and ONSM-20 Canberra Dear all Given the widespread impact of the virus and the evolving situation, Australian Government has today announced more stringent measures in response to the global health pandemic of COVID-19 outbreak!... We have no choice but to heed to these measures and adapt to the circumstances conducting ourselves responsively and facing bravely the challenges it has brought to our personal and community lives. As a responsible sporting community, the ONSM management is absolutely committed to ensure that our community is not exposed to the health risk through the ONSM activities. Therefore, all ONSM representatives / coordinators in Australian States and Territories and New Zealand are advised to suspend all face-face local ONSM meetings and gatherings including fund-raiser dinners etc until it is safe to resume per the Government advice. In the meantime, all National / State sport coordinators are urged to continue planning and preparations for December by conducting meetings through tele-conference / skype and by communicating electronically through social media channels including FB, Viber, email etc. Our decision to postpone ONSM 2020 from April to December was very timely and is proven to be the wisest decision!
