05.01.2022 The OCS is happy to announce that our 2020 meeting will occur at the World Fisheries Congress in Adelaide next October! The conference will span five days (11-15th October) and the OCS will be running a session called Global Status, Recent Developments and Future of Shark and Ray Fisheries. The WFC will likely be the largest conference that OCS has been a part of. It occurs every 4 years and has not been held in the southern hemisphere since 1996 when it was last in Brisban...e. It will be a conference that likely attracts over a thousand attendees. Our symposium will aim to bring together scientists from our society and around the world to discuss all things related to shark fisheries. This will be a great session to attend and present research looking at Oceania shark fisheries, or population biology that may be relevant to them. Abstract submission is now open and will close on January 31st 2020. Early bird registration will start in early February. To submit an abstract head to https://wfc2020.com.au/callforabstracts/ and submit an abstract for our session. The full registration fees for the conference have not been announced yet. However, we expect them to be ~$600 for students and ~$1000 for non-students, as is typical of larger conferences these days. Once again the OCS intends to provide five student travel awards which we will announce once the registration details are confirmed. Students are encouraged to submit an abstract now as acceptance of an abstract does register you for the conference. Student prizes will be announced and awarded prior to early bird registration closing (date TBC). Information on the WFC can be found at: https://wfc2020.com.au/ Information on our session is available on our website and will be updated as things progress: https://www.oceaniasharks.org.au/wfc2020
