25.01.2022 Make sure you tune in to ABC this Tuesday night at 8.30pm to watch the first of a new 3 part series hosted by Craig Reucassel and made by the talented team behind War on Waste -Fight for Planet A Our Climate Challenge. 23.01.2022 The Erthlings who were due to play at this year’s festival in Bondi in March have just released their new single. Well done to this lovely bunch of talented young women. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/p1LagsOyzdw

21.01.2022 Thanks to the City of Sydney for supporting this important initiative to restore the health of our beautiful harbour. Living Seawalls is a Sydney Institute of Marine Science initiative supported by government, philanthropist and corporate sponsors including Ocean Lovers Festival partner Volvo Cars Australia. The Living Seawalls are designed to mimic the root structure of native mangrove trees providing habitat for marine life that aids biodiversity and attracts filter-feeding... organisms that actually absorb and filter out pollutants such as particulate matter and heavy metals keeping the water ‘clean’. The more organisms we have, the cleaner the water. If you want to learn about more solutions offering hope for our planets blue heart become an ocean lover and be part of the change you want to see in the world https://oceanloversfestival.com See more

18.01.2022 The EU has just approved the most ambitious climate change plan in history. Let's hope Australia follows

16.01.2022 Ocean Lovers Festival is supporting a ‘Zero Litter to Ocean’ target for Australia as achieving this would mean that any pollutant larger than five millimetres (like a cigarette butt) would be prevented from flowing to any waterway or ocean from any currently ‘high litter generating area’ within Australia and deliver a highly cost effective ‘win’ for the Australian environment and economy. There is unlikely to be a more opportune moment for Australia to deliver in this space and top it off, it will help create an estimated 7400 new Australian jobs! Want to know how you can support? https://zerolittertoocean.com.au Well done Ocean Protect and Stormwater New South Wales #iseachange

15.01.2022 The Sydney Coast Hope Spot was championed by Ocean Lovers Festival and designated by @Mission Blue last year at our inaugural Festival, joining hundreds of marine environments from around the world seeking protection as part of a year-round online campaign with a focus on educating the community about the exceptional marine coastal system we have around Sydney and initiatives that are helping restore and protect this environment we all use for our recreation like the Volvo Cars Living Seawalls and Sydney Institute of Marine Science Operation Crayweed. To learn about our incredible coast and some of the rare species that call it home, like the Weedy Seadragon, fairy penguins and more, read the attached article. We truly are blessed to have such incredible marine biodiversity at our doorstep. It's definitely worth protecting

15.01.2022 Right now, governments across the globe are preparing to pour trillions of dollars into initiatives to help their economies recover from the impact of COVID-19. These efforts offer a once-in-a-lifetime chance to scale up support for critically needed solutions to help protect our planet and its habitats. Our adaptation to the evolving COVID-19 restrictions has shown us that society is capable of rapid and radical change when the stakes are high. The decisions we make about the environment in the wake of COVID-19 are critical to ensuring the health and economic well-being of our children and the children of tomorrow.

14.01.2022 The current global pandemic has thrown our collective lifestyles into the spotlight, underscoring the need for transformative change. The goal of the Ocean Geographic Forum 2020 is to provide a platform for open communication with experts in a variety of fields who share the common vision of a more sustainable future. I feel honoured to have been invited to participate tomorrow at 11am Sydney time to discuss topics that must be considered as we fight to emerge from the clutches of the Coronavirus as a stronger global society. I hope you can join us for this inspiring and informative virtual event.

13.01.2022 Welcome back on stage Erthlings after being due to play at the Ocean Lovers Festival in March this year.

12.01.2022 The ocean gives us the air we breathe, stabilises our climate, provides us with food, jobs, and recreation, and science shows that simply being near large bodies of water make us healthier, happier, more connected, and better at what we do. Moving forward, we must take bigger steps to ensure the protection of our planet’s precious aquatic resources. Want to know more about how you can feel more connected and be the change you want to see in the world? Listen to this recent Ocean Geographic Forum 2020 on the Blue State of Mind that Ocean Lovers was part of with Keynote speakers Sylvia A. Earle from Mission Blue and Fabien Cousteau and some incredible speakers including Dr. Wallace J. Nichols, Craig Leeson and more!

08.01.2022 Better for us - better for the planet The Sun Cable project, backed Australian businessmen Mike Cannon-Brookes and Andrew Forrest, has just been awarded Major Project status and has been put on the fast-track by the Australian Federal Government. Sun Cable is proposing a massive solar array of 10GW, battery storage facilities of up to 30 gigawatt hours, and a high voltage direct current sub-sea cable of 3,750kms all the way to potential customers in Singapore. Each component will be the biggest of its type in the world. This is a huge step forward in our efforts to move our economy away from the reliance of fossil fuels and exporting our Aussie sunshine to the world https://reneweconomy.com.au/sun-cables-massive-10gw-solar-/

05.01.2022 The mostly undocumented story of the planet’s ocean health is found beyond the reach of scuba divers and the top one hundred feet of water that few of us have experienced. Scientists and Oceanographers have been pioneering ways to enable humans to navigate the deep ocean safely since the 1930s, innovating and finding new ways to explore the most unapproachable depths of the open sea. Sylvia Earle has spent 7,000 hours underwater of which a good part has been in tiny submersib...le crafts where she dove to depths of over 1000 feet in parts of the ocean previously unexplored. Listen to stories that will inspire questions and conversations to help us all make a difference. Register here to join Sylvia and her daughter, fellow ocean explorer Liz Taylor on a personal pictorial and conversational journey through the wonders and challenges facing our planet’s ocean in this unique Ask-Me-Anything series presented by Ocean Elders and Medley Media.

05.01.2022 The Ocean Impact Pitchfest winner and runners up were announced today by globally renowned conservationist, Her Deepness Sylvia A. Earle . A panel of experts judged the top 3 who were shortlisted from almost 200 applications from 38 countries. Dr Earle said We are beginning to see, maybe for the first time, how important the ocean is to every breath we take and every drop of water we drink and that what we do to the ocean is not just having an impact on our health, it’s ...also having an impact on the economy. The Winner and recipient of a $15,000 cash prize from Bank Australia and $50,000 in support from the Pitchfest Partner Network is Planet Protector Packaging who use waste from the wool industry to create insulated packaging solutions. 03.01.2022 Many of us have already begun our journey to reduce our addiction to plastic and Plastic Free July is a great time to reflect on how we can consciously keep up the effort and think of more steps we can take to safeguard our future. Become part of our #iseachange movement or join movements like Plastic Free Beaches aimed at stopping the abundance of plastic at the source by holding large food and drink companies accountable for the plastic they create. There are so many ways we can be the change we want to see in this world. Please share your ideas with us

03.01.2022 Happy World Oceans Day Sydney’s underwater environment is a critical place for the health of our oceans and we were so proud last April at our inaugural Ocean Lovers Festival to champion the Sydney Coast as a Mission Blue Hope Spot The concentration of marine life right next to Australia’s largest city and the incredible biodiversity that exist here, make it so special If we can show that we can protect our marine environment here, and that humans and a healthy ecosystem can coexist, then Sydney can become a global example Blessed with this beautiful and biodiverse coastline, we have so much to celebrate today and every day Nick Dawkins
