21.01.2022 Containment and travel restrictions put in place around the world have created a real need for escape, nature and freedom. In such uncertain situations, the yachting world is seen as a haven and the yachting market is doing well. And indeed, we are seeing an increase among our clients of long-distance sailing projects, especially with families. The AMEL yachts being particularly well suited for this type of program, we are undoubtedly benefiting from this positive effect... of the crisis. AMEL Yachts has announced its digital AMEL Private Tour, a package that builds on the brand’s Private Days initiative launched last September. #amelyachts #oceanmagazine_au

19.01.2022 LUNA ROSSA WINS SEMI-FINALS, PRADA CUP Nice one, said Jimmy Spithill. Now the INEOS boys. And so the semi-finals of the Prada Cup wrapped up, after just four races. The final race, American Magic’s last chance to fire in a regatta where they have not scored a single direct hit, ran as most had predicted. Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli engaged in the pre-start and although the boats were fairly even at the start, the Italians gradually pulled ahead.... It got worse. On the second leg, Dean Barker said, The board won’t go down. And although there was little hope of catching Luna Rossa at that point, Barker’s words wrote the rest of the race: a series of penalties against American Magic as it was unable to gybe on-demand as the boundary line approached. Afterward, on international television, Terry Hutchinson was asked how hard it was right now. The man was clearly struggling to keep his composure, and I bet he was grateful for the armour of his helmet, sunglasses, and two headsets on his face. His answer, voice breaking said it all. It’s brutal. America's Cup / INEOS Team UK / Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team / American Magic / Ocean Magazine / SAILS Magazine /

04.01.2022 Two races down. Race one and two of the Prada Cup semi-final today were sort-of like a rinse and repeat: in the start, Luna Rossa was aggressive and managed to lock American Magic into a position that gave the Americans little control over their destiny, especially in the first race. The Italians led their opposition over the start line in a solid lead and held it to the finish, never threatened or attacked despite the shifty conditions. And that was the repeat for the secon...d race. Points to note: everyone was glad to see American Magic back on the water and it seemed the repair job had been successful or had it? Particularly during race two, there was some hesitancy and both races gave me moments of crikey, please, no. Here.We.Go.Again but luckily the boat landed back on her feet. Even Luna Rossa attempted some aerobics exiting the leeward gate and, since both boats seemed to dice with danger at that mark rounding, from then on, they put out their training wheels and went around on both foils, slower and more stable. In both races, American Magic trailed and suffered a major slow-down event which saw a huge delta at the finish. But just in case you think they are scaredy-cats for slowing down, American Magic hit a new top speed of more than 53 knots, several times. How fast is too fast? At what point, does the rudder cavitate due to speed? It seemed American Magic was researching that boundary. When asked if American Magic had been a bit skittish in the choppy, windy conditions. Terry Hutchinson admitted their rudder had been damaged in that little tip-over suffered 12 days ago, which had caused issues in the training the last couple of days. I love Terry. His leadership the last two weeks has been the stuff of management training textbooks and his glass has always been half-full, but with no wins so far in this Prada Cup and with only two wins to Luna Rossa between now and his team heading home, I think he was struggling to fire optimism into his answers. Meanwhile, Luna Rossa barely put a foil wrong and were looking cool under pressure except they weren’t under much pressure. Would they have been as slick, as cool, if the race had been against Ineos Team UK? Thoughts?
