04.01.2022 Santo was hit by a Cat 5 cyclone last week. Unfortunately there was a massive damage to property in Luganville and Aore Island. The wind gusts were horrendous and caused the loss of many large, beautiful trees and gardens. Fortunately our Villa only suffered some minor damage to guttering, the roof of our shed and a window in our bedroom. However the garden will need a lot of love from Valerie and Lista. Joe, our manager, will stay at the house with his family until he can ...rebuild his house on Aore Island. Valerie and Lista’s village KK1 was not damaged. It seems that north of Barrier Beach is untouched. However we are still waiting to hear about South Santo and the West coast as the roads are closed from the trees that have fallen. People are asking how to help. Due to COVID 19, anything sent will be quarantined for 2 weeks and the flights are sporadic any way. The best thing to do is to donate money, so they can buy metal for their roofs, hammers, concrete etc. A friend has started a GoFundme account for Joe and his family. I will share this link with you and when I have details of Mayumi Greens Big Heart Vanuatu charity, I will pass it on. It is amazing that this did not get any airtime in Australia. Poor Santo and the islands in the path of Cyclone Harold are going to need some serious help from their Pacific friends. See more
