24.01.2022 Our new Performing Arts Centre provided an ideal venue for students to try on their graduation gowns, and have the Year 12 class photo taken for the 2020 yearbook. We are in the process of planning a parent tour of our wonderful new facilities. Details will be provided shortly.

23.01.2022 Peer Mentoring Program: Last week was the second week of our Peer Mentoring Program with our Year 10 Peer Mentors and our Year 7 Peer Mentees. Our focus is Organisation with our Mentors assisting our Mentees improve their skills to be organised and ready to learn in the classroom. The year 7s are gaining a better understanding of CONNECT, study skills and time management along with benefiting from the social skills being learnt along the way. We look forward to seeing our students engage in this Program each week.



23.01.2022 Mrs Howeys Year 8 Numeracy class are working out all the ways we can find percentages without a calculator. We also have a trick to finding percentages..... did you know that 28% of 50 is the same as 50% of 28???

22.01.2022 During this term, the year 8 students of Mrs Howey's Mathematics class have been using whiteboards and playing cards to calculate mean, mode, median and range. Some students made the red cards equal negative numbers and some calculated these statistics for the whole pack!

21.01.2022 The year 7 Science Academic Extension class had their second visit from Fire Tech today. Students began the workshop by discussing potential applications of drone technologies within the mining industry, after which they were given the opportunity to program and then drive drones for themselves through a series of obstacle courses. At the end of the lesson, students were delighted to hear that drone pilot jobs would be a growing future industry, and in their own words, they could be paid to play.

21.01.2022 Year 8 Staff vs Student Netball Last Friday our Year 8s played against our staff team and put up an exciting challenge. A great game to watch and almost a win for our year 8s who managed to steal 4 goals from their teachers. Well done to all players.



20.01.2022 Ocean Reef Senior High School is very proud to share our Acknowledgement of Country that was created to be special to Noongar Country and our school. This acknowledgement was created by a team of students with representation from our Indigenous students and student councillors. Our students were guided by Yvonne Daddow, Yued Elder, and supported by staff from our Indigenous Education Committee, Tanysha McCann and Matt Bartlett.

20.01.2022 Staff vs Student Netball Year 7 Last Wednesday saw the first round of staff vs student netball for our year 7s. It was fast and furious, and our year 7s put up a good fight against their teachers. The teachers remain victorious, but a lot of fun was had by all. Well done teachers and well done year 7s.

19.01.2022 Mrs Lamont’s Year 10 Psychology class enjoyed creating their own 3D human brain models in class this week after learning about their different structures and functions. They are discovering the link between our biology and behaviour this term.

19.01.2022 On Wednesday night as part of Science Week, the Year 12 ATAR Marine and Maritime Studies students had the opportunity to attend a presentation at St Marys Anglican Girls School. The students watched presentations from Marine Scientists, cinematographers and videographers working in the field. This gave a huge insight to the students into the life of a Marine Scientist and the opportunities that are available to them should they pursue their studies in the future. The students had a great night and were offered some great opportunities to network!

19.01.2022 Yesterday Daisy and Jade spoke to our school community on the importance of honouring Remembrance Day. Emergency Cadets, Will and Cash assisted with the lowering and raising of the flags.

17.01.2022 Our 2020 yearbook has arrived. Today yearbooks were provided to those Year 7-10 students in attendance who had placed an order (excluding our Adventure World attendees). We apologise for the delay but are pleased to provide an opportunity for the collection of all remaining yearbook orders from the front administration office tomorrow between the hours of 8.00am-3.00pm or after 25 January 2021.

17.01.2022 Mrs Howeys Year 10 Numeracy class have been working on Measurement and decided to measure how big our school is. Through team discussions it was decided that two groups were needed to measure the same distances so that the results could be cross checked. Chalk marks were used so students had reference points on where to start and stop the measurements.

16.01.2022 Youth Policing program is a new community initiative that is being offered across metropolitan schools. The focus of the program is on building relationships with youth. On Tuesday two Officers from the Youth Policing program dropped by to say hi to our students during the recess break as part of the new community initiative. The Officers appreciated being able to engage with our great students and look forward to visiting again in the future.

15.01.2022 Congratulations to Year 9 student Indigo Ellis who is the recent winner of two award categories in the West Australian Music (WAM) Awards for her song Home. Indigo won the Schools 14 years and under Award and the Act Belong Commit Award. We are very proud of Indigos achievements. Indigos song Home is playing on both the ABC and Noongar Radio stations.

15.01.2022 Year 9 and 10 students were delighted after a challenging year to make their way to Rotto to put into practice their surf lifesaving skills. Thanks to the teachers involved in the program throughout 2020.

13.01.2022 Last Saturday, Archie and Ruby, represented the Surf Lifesaving cadet group at the ‘Cadet of the year awards’ held at the RSL HQ. They both delivered a speech on what the ANZAC spirit meant to them and sat an Australian culture/first aid test. If successful they will receive a prize sometime in late January (prior to COVID, this was a trip to Canberra).

12.01.2022 Ocean Reef SHS is excited to announce the launch of our new STUDY HUB initiative. Study Hub will be running in the library each Tuesday afternoon (3.05-4.00pm) and Wednesday morning (8.20 -8.50am) commencing this Tuesday, 25th August. Staffed by members of our expert teaching team from Science, English, Humanities & Social Sciences and the Arts Study Hub provides a great opportunity for students to complete homework in a supportive environment knowing there is help at hand.... We will be welcoming all students of all year levels with designated lower and senior school study zones. Please encourage your child/children to attend.

11.01.2022 Students have been exploring alternative sources to single use plastics in order to protect and conserve our marine environment. In the students Science classes this week they watched a video about seaweed spheres and their ability to replace plastic water bottles. The students were keen to give them a go! Not sure the texture was as satisfying!

09.01.2022 Firemen to the rescue! The Department of Fire and Emergency Services was called out yesterday morning to rescue our resident Kookaburra who had managed to trap itself in the roof of the old Performing Arts Centre. The Firemen successfully released the uninjured bird and were rewarded with a loud call of thanks. Thank you to Police Officer Clarke for co-ordinating the rescue.

09.01.2022 Year 7 & 8 Surf Lifesaving Cadets attended Point Peron Camp School and participated in a range of challenging activities. These included; a beach carnival at Sorrento, hike at Manning Park, an amazing race, kayaking, Penguin Island visit and a quiz night. 09.01.2022 Peer Mentoring Program: over the last 6 weeks our Staff Facilitators have upskilled fifteen Year 10 Mentors, supporting them to work side by side with our Year 7 Mentees. The focus this year was organisation with Mentors assisting the Mentees with Connect, emailing, study skills, time management, organising folders, and social skills. It has been a pleasure working with all of the students over the last 6 weeks and they were congratulated with a Certificate of Participation. Well done students!
