22.01.2022 This is what $16,000 of new sheets, halyards, an inner forestay and running backstays look like. With most of it dyneena and some vectran, they will be strong and light. It’s spliced and ready for installation.

21.01.2022 How cool are these fenders from impactfenders.com. They take up less space, they float and you can use them as cushions as well. They are light weight, puncture proof and easier to line up with the poles on commercial docks as you can hang them vertical or horizontal. I am testing them on Silver Fern and so far they are great.

18.01.2022 Day 3 of the AC75 Christmas Race Series is live online now:

17.01.2022 So excited to join the biggest fleet ever in Australia's friendliest regatta: 'Sail Paradise' - hosted by the Southport Yacht Club

14.01.2022 Replacing a bolt through the anchor roller. Here is the live Predict Wind tracker for our Tasman Sea crossing. It’s updated hourly and displays weather enroute: https://www.oceansailingpodcast.com/live-tracker

14.01.2022 A great week at the Sail Paradise Regatta on the Gold Coast with an excellent job done once again by the hosts at the Southport Yacht Club. It was a steep learning curve for our crew learning to race Silver Fern from scratch. We struggled in the light winds with our 30 tons, but we got better at starting each race at full speed and maintaining speed through the tacks. We broke a bit of hardware, pulled off 2 genoa cars and tore the original dacron genoa in half, but have plenty to fine tune and work on and what a stunning, super friendly back drop.

14.01.2022 Unexpected issues with hydraulic steering and refrigeration meant we are still parked up in Whangarei tonight but at least we get to sleep onboard for the first time. My only crew member Lena Wilderang was not allowed to board her flight from Denmark to Auckland this morning so my wife Danielle decided to join me instead of flying home. Hoping to depart for Opua by mid morning tomorrow and then for Queensland on Sunday.

12.01.2022 Despite spending more than $600k purchasing and upgrading Silver Fern to an immaculate Cat 0 offshore commercial standard, yacht for sale ads like this one remind me how lucky I am to purchase this incredible yacht at such a good price.

11.01.2022 And we have finally left! First we are heading for Opua tonight, clear customs tomorrow and then bringing Silver Fern home to Qld! ( another kiwi on the Gold Coast!) Danielle

08.01.2022 The rewiring and electronics upgrades enter week 7 of the rewire project and although it still looks a long way away, the electricians expect to be done by November 15th. It’s been a difficult job for them and it’s not something I’d want to repeat with the cost at $92,000 to date and still rising. The new hardware will be fantastic though and deliver reliable sailing for many years to come

05.01.2022 Daves smile says it all...... The hours put into this last week has been a marathon Daves brother is coming to Opua with us. He’s a handy guy to have around. Knows how to do stuff

04.01.2022 Heading for Marsden Point and the entrance to the outer gulf. It finally seems real.

04.01.2022 An unfortunate discovery yesterday with a small leak in the rear window of the lazarette turning into widespread rotting ply inside the exterior fibreglass skins. The window serves no purpose so it’s being removed and replaced with new glass over fresh ply. In the photo are the 2 new life rafts and 10 immersion suits that were delivered yesterday. I can see why you won’t die if hypothermia in 5 degree sea temperatures

01.01.2022 Latest update on the Silver Fern project
