20.01.2022 Mental Health Plan sessions doubled The Government announced that it will double the number of Medicare-subsidised psychological services from 10 to 20 through the Better Access Initiative in its 2020-21 Budget this week. Recognising that last summer's bushfires and the COVID-19 pandemic have significantly affected the mental health and wellbeing of the population, this move aims to provide additional access to much needed mental health support. The extra 10 sessions will be ...available from Friday 9 October 2020 and the initiative will run for an initial two year period. To access the Medicare funded sessions you will first need to see your GP and ask for a Mental Health Care Plan and referral to a mental health professional. Patients who already have a plan will now only require a GP/referrer review after the 10th session to determine the need for additional support. We have a fantastic team of Psychologists at Mullumbimby Comprehensive Health centre, but please be aware that due to high demand there may be a wait to get an appointment. Your GP can advise you and suggest alternatives where necessary.
