25.01.2022 There have been cases of severe LEAD poisoning believed to have resulted from the use of ILLICIT OPIUM PRODUCTS contaminated with LEAD. If you have used ILLICIT OPIUM PRODUCTS at any point since early 2016 it is recommended that you have a blood test to check your LEAD levels. LEAD poisoning can be difficult to diagnose so check with the doctor if you are not sure.

23.01.2022 Reminder that August and September are peak months for invasive meningococcal disease. NSW is offering vaccination to Year 10 and 11 students this year. This vaccination can be offered for free by General Practioners to any 15-19 year olds who have not been vaccinated at school until December 31, 2018. Invasive meningococcal disease occurs in all age groups and its symptoms are non-specific but MAY include sudden onset of fever, headache, neck stiffness, joint pain, rash of red-purple spots or bruises, dislike of bright lights, nausea and vomiting. SEEK professional medical help as soon as possible if you are not sure.

23.01.2022 BUSH-FIRE SMOKE HEALTH ALERT Bush-fire smoke contains fine particles that may cause health effects. People at greater risk from smoke include those with underlying lung or heart conditions, the elderly and young children. People at greater risk should avoid outdoor physical activity when it is smoky and stay indoors as much as possible with windows and doors closed. Please stick to your medical treatment plan and seek medical attention if symptoms persist or worsen and in case of an emergency dial Triple Zero (000)

22.01.2022 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!PAIN-KILLERS (OPIOID) CRISIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is now clear evidence showing harms and side effects of prescribed painkillers in the treatment of non-palliative and non-cancer chronic pain such as back pain, headaches, joint pain. These painkillers are responsible for more accidental deaths than heroin and every day in Australia, 3 people die from the use of these medications (which is about 100 people per month) and about 150 people are admitted to hospit...al (which is about 4500 people per month) and about 14 people are seen in the emergency department (which is about 420 people per month). With such staggering accidental statistics of harm and deaths and the new knowledge we now have, we now utterly reject to be part of and to be associated with prescribing such medications for chronic non-cancer pain. It is not sitting well with our conscience and it goes against our oath and the care we want to provide to you. See more

18.01.2022 FACE MASKS Evidence suggest that most masks publicly available are not effective because it is difficult to achieve a good fit and maintain a seal around the face. Surgical masks are not effective at all against smoke. Up to date AIR QUALITY information is available at https://www.dpie.nsw.gov.au/air-quality

18.01.2022 WHOOPING COUGH (PERTUSSIS) Cases of whooping cough are increasing across NSW particularly among school aged children and it is anticipated that cases will continue to increase into 2019. If anyone has symptoms consistent with whooping cough or you are not sure please seek medical help as soon as you can because identification, isolation and treatment of whooping cough can help prevent spread. Keep your vaccinations up to date in particular with infants, pregnant women and those who work with children and pregnant women.

15.01.2022 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HEAT HEALTH ALERT!!!!!! The Bureau of Meteorology has forecasted extreme hot weather in NSW this week. There is very good evidence that extreme heat is associated with serious health consequences such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion. High-risk groups include people over the age of 75 years old, infants and young children, people with chronic medical conditions and people taking certain medications. Risks can be reduced by planning ahead for hot days and rescheduling outdoor activities, staying indoors during the hottest part of the day, keeping cool with air-conditioning or fans and drawing blinds and curtains closed and keeping well hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Stay in regular contact with family members and vulnerable friends and neighbours.

14.01.2022 The corona-virus ( 2019-nCoV) outbreak now meets the criteria for a Public Health Emergency of International Concern requiring a global coordinated effort. Corona-viruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness from the common cold to more severe diseases. The new corona-virus (2019-nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans.... Initial human infections of the new corona-viruses were acquired from exposure to animals at the live animal market in Wuhan, China but we now know that this novel corona-virus can spread from person-to-person. Symptoms include fever, cough and difficulty breathing. Severe cases can cause pneumonia, kidney failure, and even death. Most people infected with 2019-nCoV live in, or have recently travelled to mainland China and there are now cases reported in other countries including Australia. There is evidence of human-to-human transmission. People are considered to be most infectious when they have symptoms however there is some evidence that even people with no symptoms are also able to transmit the virus. There is currently no vaccine available for this new virus. https://www.racgp.org.au//Patient_alert_poster_-_Coronavir

01.01.2022 The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) is urging people to call their GP with health concerns arising from bush-fire smoke that are not life threatening. Smoke from Australia’s bush-fire crisis has blanketed cities across Australia, leading to a deterioration in air quality and a spike in health concerns. RACGP President Dr Harry Nespolon said people should turn to their GP in the first instance for non-life threatening health concerns. If it’s not lif...e threatening, call your local GP they are best placed to assess your health concerns, review any current treatment and optimise care in the current conditions. We know paramedics have seen a spike in calls from people suffering from respiratory conditions related to bush-fire smoke. Emergency lines should only be used when there are genuine emergencies, it’s important that they are not tied up. See more
