25.01.2022 Hey guys, I need to take this week off to help my parents as they are having a really rough time of it at the moment and they need some love and support. And you know I always say, family first. I will try to have an open day on Saturday as lots of stock is starting to arrive finally. But Im just waiting to see how my week pans out. 23.01.2022 Next cab off the rank. This lovely old writing desk. Here we are at the ugly phase. A good reminder for everyone starting out on a project. Please don't expect your first coat of paint to look fabulous. Its only the first coat and it can look thin and streaky most of the time. ... Don't be tempted to apply your paint thickly to try to get full coverage on your first coat. You will end up with a thick lumpy finish with drips that won't cure properly and lots of brush marks. Its much better to do a couple of thin coats. Your second coat will fill in the thin bits. Occasionally you may need a third coat if you are painting with white over a dark colour. This coat is my stain blocker and always looks patchy. A couple of coats of a lovely soft grey based blue will be going over this piece. And then distressed to show a little peek of the white underneath.

21.01.2022 HOORAY! THEYRE BACK! *********** Why should you own a premium quality brush? Does it really make a difference? ***********... If you only choose one decent brush for your furniture painting tool kit, the Cling -on O35 is my pick. It really does make a huge difference to your finish. Its the perfect all rounder and a great place to start if this is your first brush. The oval shape is great for a variety of surfaces including curves and spindles as well as flat surfaces. It gives a nice sharp finish when cutting in too. Its synthetic bristles are tapered to give a smooth velvety finish and are designed to minimise brush strokes. A cheap nasty brush will really hamper your painting experience. You dont want to be picking out bristles and sanding out brush marks. Cling ons dont shed. They are so well made and super durable. They love water and when youre ready to clean your brush just give it a rinse and leave it soaking about a third of the way up the bristles. It will clean itself. You can use a couple of pegs on the handle to stop the bristles sitting in the bottom of your jar and bending out of shape. When youre ready to use it again, give it a quick rinse and a shake and youre ready to go. These brushes just keep on going. It will last you for years if you care for it correctly. Actually Im pretty mean to my brushes but they are still going strong after many years of use. Ive never had to throw one out. Let me know if you have any questions. Happy painting! 09.01.2022 Sneak peek of a piece that will be for sale. Who wants to see?

09.01.2022 Can you be in love with a piece of furniture??? This one has my heart. Well it really has a presence and I can just feel the history lingering in it. ... Finally finished and it was a joy. Except for the cleaning. My white lighting cleaner went into overdrive. So much dirt and grime came out of it. I sanded the top and stained it with my Dixie Belle No Pain Gel Stain in Walnut. Super easy. I love that stuff! Then I gave it a seal with beeswax that has the most delicious scent. The rest had a couple of coats of BOSS stain blocker. No residue or tannins will be creeping through my paint surface. Then I gave it one coat of Silks mineral paint in the colour- Quiet Cove. I just lightly brushed over the carved details to show some of the white peeking through. Some light distressing and then the addition of those swoon worthy antique handles. The inner shelves got a treatment of Big Mamas Butter, to replenish the dry timber. Scented with orange. Just lovely! And finally I made some art pieces from antique cabinet door inserts. Made to match perfectly with this piece. Voila! If you would like to create this look, all products are available in my online store.
