22.01.2022 Ocean Youth Sunshine Coast is looking for tomorrow’s leaders in ocean sustainability. The 2021 Ocean Youth information evening will be held on Wednesday 9 December at SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast Sunshine Coast teenagers keen to enhance their knowledge of ocean conservation are invited to take part in the 2021 Ocean Youth program. A gift voucher for the 2021 program is the perfect Christmas present for adventurous, ocean-loving 15-18-year-olds!... Those who are interested in learning more can attend the Ocean Youth information evening at SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast from 3:30pm-5pm on Wednesday 9 December 2020 to find out if they have what it takes to become an Ocean Youth Ambassador. The 2021 Ambassadors will need a passion for marine conservation to take part in the unique nine-month program, which involves interactive keeper sessions, skills-building activities and exciting nature-based experiences. From swimming with whales to learning about turtle rescue and rehabilitation, the Ocean Youth Ambassadors will gain an extraordinary insight into the protection of marine wildlife and develop new skills to enact positive behaviour change in their communities. Other Ocean Youth experiences include snorkelling with sharks and the opportunity to attain an Open Water Diving Certificate with Sunreef! Former Ocean Youth Ambassador Dylan Brown, aged 17, enjoyed meeting like-minded teenagers when he took part in Ocean Youth in 2018; I had such a great time in the Ocean Youth program in 2018! We swam with whales, snorkelled with sharks and I completed my open water dive ticket. I found a new group of friends who love the ocean just as much as I do and it helped me decide that I want to study marine biology, said Dylan. Chloe Zatta, Ocean Youth Facilitator and Aquarist at SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast, is excited to meet the next crop of students who are passionate about protecting the ocean; 2021 will be the fifth year we have run the Ocean Youth program at SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast. Our aim is to educate and inspire young people to conserve and protect our oceans. We are trying to give these teenagers the skills they need to become tomorrow’s leaders in ocean sustainability, said Chloe. Ocean Youth is funded and run by Ocean Future Fund alongside SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast in Mooloolaba. Register your interest by emailing [email protected]. Further information can be found at www.oceanyouth.org.
