08.01.2022 Kwongkan call out for volunteers. Kwongkan is an important new work of dance theatre being presented by Ochre Dance at Perth Festival 2018. It investigates climate change catastrophe from the perspective of cultures connected to sacred lands. A Noongar/Indian co-production, it is a work of scale incorporating traditional and contemporary dance, aerial work, drama, film projection and live music staged in the gardens of the Fremantle Arts Centre, Feb 15-20. A great innovation... of the work is a durational pre-show option for audiences, who are invited to arrive up to 2 hours before show time to witness artist and technical preparations and participate in warm-ups, rituals and rehearsal for in-show moments. A post-show open mike discussion on the work and its concerns will also be held every night. We are staging the work with a very tight budget and will require a small team of committed volunteers to help wrangle audiences and keep them and our artists safe. There are no particular skills required, but we do need people who respect cultural diversity and share our concern with climate change. Volunteers can work on some or all nights. There will be a training session before the first performance. Some help building set and stage on Wednesday 13 would also be appreciated. This is a wonderful opportunity to work with great artists, see a wonderful show and raise awareness and action. Please register your interest by emailing Phil Thomson at [email protected] . Information on the work can be found at the following links https://www.fac.org.au/whats-on/post/kwongkan/ https://www.perthfestival.com.au/event/kwongkan See more
