16.01.2022 Given the current situation with the COVID-19 (Coronavirus), our firm is implementing the following safety and hygiene practices to try and protect not only our clients but also our staff from any possible exposure. As from today, we will be limiting the number of in house appointments to urgent matters only. We are taking email and telephone instructions for all matters until such time as the current situation eases. We will be disinfecting any surfaces before and after any contact with the public. We will also contact you, if you are scheduled for an appointment, to make sure that you are fit and well and not showing any symptoms. This is to ensure the safety of everyone. If you have any questions regarding your legal affairs please contact us and talk to one of our friendly staff.

16.01.2022 Something to keep in mind when looking at life insurance in future: https://www.abc.net.au//insurer-tal-moves-to-excl/12093542

08.01.2022 In line with the latest recommendations regarding social distancing, from today our solicitors will be working from home. There will be no more than two staff members at our office. Fact to face meetings will occur only where legislation still requires physically present witnessing of documents, and in those circumstances strict procedures for the protection of both our staff and our clients will apply. If you do not have an appointment, DO NOT COME TO OUR OFFICE. You wil...l be sent away. Our solicitors will only be present for confirmed appointments. We are still working, and will still attend to your legal matters as necessary; we just won't be seeing anybody face to face except in very limited circumstances. These measures are for your safety as well as ours. Our position remains that the sooner everyone complies with social distancing measures the sooner we will no longer need them.

07.01.2022 Now would be a good time to use "find my super" and check for any small balances you may have lying around. Laws which will CANCEL any life or disability insurance attached to those small accounts kick in on 1 April 2020. https://www.ato.gov.au/forms/searching-for-lost-super/

05.01.2022 The NSW Parliament has now passed, and the governor has assented to, emergency COVID-19 legislation. This legislation provides for temporary regulations amending the Electronic Transactions Act 2000 to allow for special arrangements for signing documents under various Acts, including the Succession Act (which deals with Wills) and the Powers of Attorney Act and the Guardianship Act. If the temporary regulations provide for electronic signature and witnessing of these documents, we will make use of those provisions wherever possible.

01.01.2022 At OCHS we believe the sooner we all comply with social distancing rules the sooner we will no longer need them. To that end we are implementing changes to our procedures. Attendances to give us instructions will be by telephone or email ONLY. For situations where physically present witnessing is required by legislation, such as wills, powers of attorney and appointments of enduring guardian, our new procedures are designed to comply with social distancing recommendations ...and will be explained when you contact us by telephone or email with your instructions. Wherever possible we will utilise electronic signing technology to limit the need for personal attendance. Our reception is now CLOSED and we ask that you not attend our offices unless you have a confirmed appointment. These measures are for the protection of our clients and staff and we are grateful for your co-operation. See more
