16.01.2022 Top Tips for Clearing Autumn Leaves Before you start, assess your yard for twigs, rocks and debris before you start as these can damage the machine. To avoid blow back (when the leaves go everywhere!) keep the nozzle at a shallow angle, blow with the wind and along walls. Use varying speeds to maintain control. Hard surfaces require a slower speed as leaves are easier to move.... The round nozzle is great for working on uneven surfaces like grass. The flat nozzle is great for accuracy on flat surfaces and is perfect for moving wet leaves. Once youve blown to one collection point, switch to vacuum shredder setup. Start at the top of the pile and vacuum the leaves slowly to avoid clogging, the shredder will reduce the leaves to approximately 1/4 of their size. Save those leaves! Add them to your compost heap for use in your garden next year! Click on this link for more tips! https://blog.stihl.com.au/big_autumn_clean_up/task-2/

16.01.2022 Top Tips for Autumnal Tree Pruning Before you start pruning, develop a plan as to where the cuttings are likely to fall and prepare for this. The telescopic shaft can be extended to 3.9m with one quick action, reaching trees up to 5m high. Maintain an angle of no more than 60 to the limb youre working on. This will make sure youre not under it when it falls!... For stability, keep your arms at waist level, dont extend them overhead. When pruning in early Autumn, focus on removing the three Ds Dead, Damaged and Diseased. Only apply light pressure when you cut and avoid using the tip of the bar. To stop the guide bar being pinched when pruning heavy branches, make a small relieving cut in the compression side first (usually at the bottom of the branch), then a second cut (called a bucking cut) at the opposite side For branches over 5m high, leave those to a professional arborist. 05.01.2022 Top Tips for Autumnal Hedge Trimming and Disposal Only give your hedges a light trim in Autumn, save major reshaping until spring when re-growth is faster. When cutting the side of the hedge, start from the bottom and swing the hedge trimmer upwards in an arc while cutting, stop cutting to walk forward, lower hedge trimmer and then repeat. Cut the top of the hedge by holding the cutting blades at an angle of less than 10. The slight angle will stop them catching on twiggy br...anches. The HLA 85 features a telescopic pole with a total extended length of 3.3m. Surprisingly light, you can work on tall hedges with ease. Promote healthy growth by tapering any patchy areas, allowing the sunlight to get in. The HLA 85 blades are Swiss made with diamond ground cutters, purposefully designed to cut with absolute precision. Your local STIHL Dealer can sharpen them and help keep them maintained. Use a resin solvent like STIHL Resin Spray to keep your blades in top condition and make them easier to clean after use. Give back to your garden and shred your trimmings. The STIHL GHE 355 Shredder makes quick work of hedge clippings or branches up to 35mm. For more interesting tips click on the link below: https://blog.stihl.com.au/big_autumn_clean_up/task-3/
