14.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW ABOUT "RAGS" THE DECORATED WAR HERO- While in the trenches of World War I, the U.S. First Infantry Division found themselves unable to communicate with other troops because shellfire had damaged the telephone wires. A young private came up with a unique solution: Rags, a mixed breed terrier whom the soldiers had adopted in Paris, would carry the messages from one division to the next tucked into his collar. He saved many lives, and when Rags passed awayin Maryland, at the very advanced age of 20he was buried with military honors.

11.01.2022 OCTECs magnificent Croagh Patrick Learning Facility combines state of the art technology with old world charm in a parkland setting to create the perfect learning environment. Originally built by the Lane family in 1883 as a family home known as Llanello, over the past 100 years Croagh Patrick has been used as an orphanage, and a boarding house. Today, Croagh Patrick is a OCTECs Learning Centre, and offers a beautiful setting for our training programs. The Phillips Centr...e is a more modern addition to the facility, and was purpose built to deliver Aged Care and Community Services training. Croagh Patrick even provides accommodation for up to 12 students, so is set up to service students throughout regional and remote NSW. 11.01.2022 LIFE & DEATH ALWAYS HAVE MEANING... This is the DEATH MASK of a young woman who drowned in the River Seine in the 1880s. As was customary in those days, her corpse was put on display in the Paris mortuary, in the hope that someone might recognize her and claim her body. The pathologist on duty became entranced by the girl with the enigmatic half-smile, and so he commissioned a plaster cast made of her face. ... This mask was replicated many times over. She became known as "LInconnue de la Seine, or The Unknown Woman of the Seine. In 1955, a toymaker named Asmund Laerdal created what we now know as the CPR doll. Asmund wanted his mannequin to have a natural appearance. Remembering a mask on the wall of his grandparents house many years earlier, he decided that the LInconnue de la Seine would become the face of Resusci Anne. So you see, this anonymous woman who drowned in the 19th century is responsible for saving many, many lives the world over. It is said that she has the most kissed face of all time. This week I spent 2 days teaching first aid to some amazing parents from our local Hippy Program in Orange. HIPPY - Orange... The two-year Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters (HIPPY) helps develop the skills and confidence of parents or carers with children about to start school in Orange, NSW. A HIPPY mentor will enable parents or carers to recognise how a child learns, and what they can do to create a positive learning environment in their home. #Firstaid #teaching #CPR #savinglives #promotingrecovery #defib
