23.01.2022 I’ve never really been a dreamer, I’m more a realist and like to stay in my comfort zone. But this picture right here was my dream and I’m so super proud to put forward our current collection of Octoprem toys!! When I first started Octoprem, I didn’t dare to dream beyond the first design and production batch, but the ideas kept flowing and I set little goals of when I’d allow myself to invest in the next design. The new Blankies, Minis and Wraps have been a labour of love a...nd allow us to donate even more back to the Premmie community - every sale across our entire collection allows us to donate funds back to Miracle Babies Foundation and allow us to fund donations of Softies and wraps back to other charities, hospitals and NICU support groups. So whenever you’re next on the lookout for a baby gift, please keep us in mind and know how much we appreciate your support!!!

18.01.2022 November is NICU awareness month - and while awareness doesn’t necessarily mean understanding or comprehending what happens in the NICU, for me it means spreading some knowledge so if you ever end up there, you don’t feel totally blindsided by it, like you have entered a parallel universe that is a nightmare and a dream all wrapped into one. For us, we had no prior warning that NICU was around the corner - a complicated pregnancy yes, hospital visits yes, but no mention of p...remature delivery, visiting the NiCu for a tour, discussion of what an early birth would mean or anything of the sort. Things went from 0-100 in no time, and giving birth at 27 weeks meant life was also turned upside down for my then 3 and 2 year olds. These acronyms became our life as we discussed our daughters progress and wellbeing day in day out with a team of specialists. While knowing all of this information beforehand may not have changed our journey, it definitely would have had me feeling more prepared and equipped to handle what was about to come our way courtesy of @preemiehood

17.01.2022 I think I’ve just found the perfect Christmas present that all 3 of my girls will love and they don’t need to fight over it!! Loving this unicorn sprinkler by @potterybarnkidsaus - hope I can get my hands on one before they’re all gone!! courtesy of @potterybarnkidsaus

16.01.2022 we had a big day out today and just want everyone to go to bed so I can go too! Are your little ones good sleepers or not so good?!

16.01.2022 Did you know that your body produces breastmilk adjusted especially for your preterm baby? I went to breastfeeding classes before my first daughter was born, visited a lactation nurse with my two older daughters and never recall hearing anything about what my body would do if I gave birth prematurely. When our third daughter was on the way, I was very hopeful to breastfeed her but after her early arrival was rather distraught that yet another thing wouldn’t go to plan - she ...was born early, she was sick, she was hooked up to a bunch of machines and now I wouldn’t even be able to feed her. I was gobsmacked when the doctors told me to start expressing - to try every few hours as my body knew to produce milk, and they wanted my milk to be the first thing they gave her. I had absolutely no idea our bodies could do this - and 2.5 years later she’s still going courtesy of @medela_au

08.01.2022 Babies are born all year round, which also means families can find themselves in hospital with a sick or premature baby around Christmas, instead of enjoying the festive season with their loved ones! To bring a little Christmas cheer to these families, we will be donating toys to @nicufoodfromtheheart for their Christmas gift bags! This year they have the mammoth task of putting together 100 gift bags for families who will be spending Christmas in the:... * Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Royal North Shore Hospital * Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Westmead Public Hospital * Grace Centre for Newborn Intensive Care at Westmead Children's Hospital. With this big goal, we'll be donating 50 toys this year to help spread the cheer, and could really use your assistance to help fill the other 50 bags! We have a range of toys to choose from - Softies, Rattles, Blankies and Minis, and we're offering them at a discounted price of $15.00 if you'd like to contribute one. Simply add a Note when you checkout stating which toy you'd like to donate and which hospital if you have a specific one in mind, plus don't forget to leave a personalised message which we will hand-write onto a card with each donation (or you can remain anonymous if you wish.) To donate, please head to https://octoprem.com.au//comforting-contributions-nicuchri We only have a couple of weeks to get this donation together so please feel free to share! And thanks to everyone who purchases from us during the year - the sales allow us to donate toys at the end of year to causes like this!!

01.01.2022 Just over 2.5 years ago, we were thrust into a new world when our daughter unexpectedly arrived 13 weeks early. To say that our world was turned upside down is an understatement. The grief, the guilt and the fear of what lay ahead hit all at once, and we spent the next 3 months navigating our new life - daytime in the NICU trying to understand our baby girl’s challenges and progress each day, followed by evenings with my two other girls, trying to maintain some sort of norma...lity for them. What seemed for months to be such a foreign experience and environment - overwhelming, gut wrenching, and most certainly a roller coaster, is actually so much more common than I could have ever imagined. With over 15 million babies born premature every year across the world, I wholeheartedly believe that awareness is so important to help parents-to-be feel prepared and ready in the event that their baby may arrive early or sick - because I know how much of a difference it would have made to me. For the last 2 years, we’ve attended a local baby expo and handed out hundreds of bags including information on support services available for families with a premature or sick baby - and while many people don’t like to engage on the topic, especially face to face, we hope one day, our small efforts make a difference to someone, somewhere
