22.01.2022 It was an ophthalmologist in Wuhan who called the first alert about a new, lethal outbreak. Dr Li Wenliang warned of a new SARS-like virus, which we are now referring to as COVID-19. Optometry plays a critical first line in disease detection. Worldwide, 78 million people have glaucoma, but about half of those living in the developed world don’t know it - and that number is estimated at 90% in poorer countries. ... The theme for this year’s World Glaucoma Week is to raise the awareness of people over the age of 40 and particularly those who have relatives with glaucoma to get tested. We really hope it’s a successful campaign - and as such increases the pressure on eye care systems to adapt. We need to transparently talk about what’s working AND what isn’t, so we can work smarter, and not just harder. https://www.oculo.co//why-is-transparent-communication-ess #WGW2020 #glaucoma

12.01.2022 Telehealth is critical to protect patients and health workers. With the coronavirus pandemic creating unprecedented strain on global health care systems, the swift implementation of telehealth can help practitioners continue caring for people with pre-existing chronic diseases - including diabetic eye disease, glaucoma and macular disease - by minimising the risk of exposure to COVID-19 and preventable vision loss. Oculo has been working with industry partners to ensure pati...ents continue to have access to care as the COVID-19 crisis continues to unfold. https://connect.oculo.com.au//lets-all-keep-each-other-safe #telehealth #telemedicine #eyecare

05.01.2022 A tsunami of patients means we can't avoid collaborative care. That was the key takeaway from Dr Paul Karpecki's session at #OIS-SECO in Atlanta. Here’s why: this year alone, approximately 76 million baby boomers will need 16 million cataract surgeries. That’s over 20 percent of the baby boomer population. With millennials outnumbering baby boomers for the first time this year, demand will only continue to grow. From cataract to refractive surgery, dry eye to glaucoma, the ...US's 18,000 ophthalmologists simply can’t keep up with demand. That is why collaborative care is more important than ever. #SECO2020 See more

03.01.2022 To help protect eye care professionals and their patients during the threat of COVID-19, Oculo is launching video conferencing to support teleophthalmology and teleoptometry. This new feature will allow optometrists and ophthalmologists to continue delivering care to their patients who require ongoing support to manage chronic conditions, without the need for in-person consultations. We want to support the community to protect patients both from infection with COVID-19 and ...preventable vision loss. We are also deeply concerned about the health and wellbeing of everyone who works in eye care. said Dr Kate Taylor More information available here - https://connect.oculo.com.au/ne/oculo-launches-telemedicine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4jrML-JfLo&feature=youtu.be #telemedicine #healthcare #ophthalmology #optometry

02.01.2022 Oculo has become the leading tool for collaboration and co-management in Australia. Since announcing our partnership with Glaucoma Australia (GA) in 2018, the Oculo platform has become the leading source of referrals to GA due to the ease of the process. Referral numbers grown consistently since its launch in late 2018 and as of the end of 2019, GA was receiving, on average, over 250 patient referrals per month. The referral data also shows patients are reaching GA 20 years ...earlier, with the previous average age of referred patients starting at 8089 years old, having now dropped to 6069. Glaucoma Australia CEO Annie Gibbins says The earlier we receive a patient referral, the more value they receive from our patient support journey resources. The collaborative approach to improve glaucoma patient quality of life outcomes by striving to save sight brings everyone joy. https://www.mivision.com.au//oculo-a-tool-for-collaborati/ #glaucoma #eyehealth #WGW2020 mivision
