09.01.2022 Suspended Coffees at Smiths Alternative - buy a coffee for a stranger (or have a stranger buy one for you) As of Monday (April 29) Smith's Alternative will introduce a suspended coffee program - and the service couldn't be easier to understand. When you come into Smith's Alternative to grab your own coffee, you can also buy a suspended hot beverage for someone else in need. We will have a tally of suspended coffees and anyone that's right anyone who feels like they are in... need of a hot drink can claim it. Homeless, disadvantaged, depressed, broke or just having a really bad day we don't care if you're wearing a three piece suit or shabby hand me downs, if you think you're in need of a hot beverage on these very cold Canberra days and we have a suspended coffee on our tally board you can claim it. No judgement. It's a simple concept that started started in Italy some years ago known as caffe sospeso - that has now spread to Australia and we think it's time it comes to Canberra's CBD. Smith's will be working with local organisations that help the disadvantaged in Canberra to help them spread the word of our suspended coffee program and that their clients are welcome to come past and see us any time. The program only works through the generosity of Smith's customers of course, so they encourage people to come in and help them help others feel warm by making someone else feel warm.
