22.01.2022 This daith piercing was performed elsewhere and is much shallower than I would prefer. It was pierced using a curved barbell as the initial jewellery, which has caused nothing but trouble. Curved barbells tend to rotate around inside the piercing channel and cause irritation. We changed the jewellery to this white opal clicker, anodised yellow gold in house, hoping to settle the irritation

Lobe health is often seen by the non stretched as an insignificant thing, but to the stretched, it’s the difference between having lobes and not having lobes. ... Stretched lobes are high maintenance and in the space of a night a problems can occur. Common issues are associated with gradual thinning and a paper cut like crack. These are generally treatable and can be corrected with alternative jewellery and daily care or worse case if the thinning has advanced to far a corrective procedure to thicken the lobes and interlock the internal tissue. The worst 2 situation that happen; are associated with Ulcers and Black spot. Black spots are normally a strong sign your vascular system in the lobe is not dealing well, it means your body may start shutting down blood vessels to protect it’s self. A black spot can be from external injury or from internal shutting down. If the black spot is a bruise and shows like a blood blister it maybe treatable and saved however if it is more advanced and left untreated it may turn into an Ulcer which then opens up a hole in the skin and can very easily split. If the black spot looks like a hole or a dry scab like formation from the outside chances are you need to see a doctor immediately. Necrosis can happen easily with stretched lobes however thankfully it is less common than bruising. This ear is showing bruising, thinning and the starting of an ulcer which means there is a chance to treat and heal (which it is now fine) but shows the importance of acting promptly to problems and inspecting your lobe health regularly.
