23.01.2022 The extremely modest and underserviced 1950s premises of the Shire of Brookton were substantially improved in functionally by the part demolition, additions and alterations. A number of staff offices, and an extended visitor and reception area were incorporated, together with a substantial enlargement of the Chambers to accommodate community attendance at Shire Meetings. The needs of administration staff, community and Councillors were considered and met during the briefing and design process. Universal access and all services (electrical, communications, hydraulic and mechanical) were upgraded to meet current requirements, including hot water provision in the kitchen and toilets for the first time, and air conditioning.

20.01.2022 OUR BARN, YORK, WA 'Our Barn' was completed in 2017 for Girl Guides WA. The building was originally built in 1849 and is now heritage listed. It shows you can create modern spaces even in historic buildings if you apply intelligent design thinking. This project was only possible due to the hard working, communicative and skilled contractors, consultants and client team members.... Thank you to Natalie Davy Photography for the amazing photos of the completed design. HISTORY This information has been adapted from Girl Guides WA website: https://www.girlguideswa.org.au/GG/Campsites/OurBarn.aspx Our Barn was originally built in 1849 by pioneer Mr John Henry Monger as a coach house, stables and storehouse for his home 'Faversham House', in the historic town of York, Western Australia. The property remained in Mr. Mongers family until World War II, when it was handed over to the Commonwealth Government and used by the Red Cross to house recovering servicemen and then War Veterans. During much of the 1950's, the property was uninhabited and became almost derelict. In 1963 the Uniting Church purchased the property and after some renovations, used the property as a conference centre. The barn and coach house was left to its own devices and became more derelict. In 1970 the York Girl Guides Unit was granted permission to begin a restoration effort on part of the barn complex to use as their meeting hall. This project however, was far larger than they initially thought, and in late 1971, the project was taken over by Mrs Ida Lloyd a Girl Guides Western Australia State Executive Committee Member. The project was then expanded and taken on by the State organisation. Members throughout the State worked and fundraised, first to purchase the property and later to re-build and renovate the building. Finally on May Day 1977 His Excellency Governor of Western Australia, Sir Wallace Kyle, officially opened Our Barn.

12.01.2022 The Gnowangerup Memorial Hall was a significant and much loved, dignified, but dilapidated landmark in the region, which now benefits from a planned and appropriate approach to restoration and maintenance via a Conservation Plan and restoration work to ensure it remains relevant to the Great Southern community it was designed to serve. 12.01.2022 A very proactive P&C at Brookton District High School initiated the planning and construction of a wonderfully engaging Nature Playground in accordance with the guidelines for WA Schools provided by the Centre for the Built Environment at the University of Western Australia, KidSafe and Nature Play WA. Each of the elements (the lake, the fort, the rocky outcrops, the climbing structures) we conceived by members, together with donations of goods and materials from local farmers, building services from local contractors, and play materials created by the Brookton Mens Shed. 10.01.2022 This current ORA project might inspire you to see new opportunities over where you are! Our client intends to repurpose a small, well-crafted stone cottage into a reading and relaxing space. The architectural response is to give the cottage a distinctly new 'floating' roof that protects the stonework and allows natural light and ventilation into a covered space. The stonework is to be faithfully restored by a skilled stonemason, to be enjoyed by future occupants.... We think the project is a great example of re-imagining places, celebrating craft and heritage, and adaptive reuse. Projects like this, we believe, contribute to regional WA's rich sense of place. www.regionalarchitect.com.au #architecturewa #architecture #stonework #cottage #repurpose #australianarchitecture #wheatbelt #restoration #stonecottage

08.01.2022 Rosalie worked with us to take ideas from an original brief full of sample photos and clippings and measurements, onto a plan on paper. The result was an amazing kitchen and family room that took our 1920s farmhouse into the 20th Century ensuring that the changes worked with the style of the rest of the house. It was then simple to take Rosalies plans and drawings and make my internal cabinetry selections, creating the look within the room that I was aiming for. Rosalie was very detailed in her work, ensuring that the smallest measurements were correct to enable my cabinet-maker to easily interpret the plans. She even gave me advise on the best height to hang my dining chandelier! - Tim & Cassandra Beeck, Glenorchy House Photos by Natalie Davy Photography

04.01.2022 The Sensory Garden was designed for the Shire of Pingellys proposed Age Appropriate Accommodation development which enables the elderly to continue living independently in a familiar and safe environment. It was an opportunity to provide an oasis of green, with climatically appropriate planting, connecting the modular housing units designed by Iredale Pederson Hook Architects. The garden is a shared circulation space (a Street) with communal outdoor living opportunities (a... Backyard), in a setting which incorporates the familiar landscaping and utility elements from country gardens, a superb selection of trees which create a structure for the micro climate and attracts bird-life, as well as a wide range of favourite, hardy plants to provide interest, colour, texture, and evocative scents of a lifetime spent in the garden and the bush. It was very satisfying to collaborate with the Shire and the Somerset Alliance as aged care stakeholders, and keen local volunteer gardeners, to create a place which could accommodate a range of living and access criteria. www.regionalarchitect.com.au #ageappropriateaccommodation #independentliving #architecture #landscaping #pingellywa See more

02.01.2022 We recently took a drive with local photographer Natalie Atkins out to the Kondinin Community Recreation Centre, which is a project we are proud to have been involved with. This project involved working closely with the KCRC Inc. Committee and liaising with the Shire of Kondinin to realise the brief, carry out design, design development and contract documentation for the additions and alterations to the c1977 ugly red brick, flat-roofed sports pavilion. As you can see, Natalie captured some great photos of the building, showcasing what is now a modern social hub! @nataliedavyphotography #kondinincommunityrecreationcentre #nataliedavyphotography #community
