07.01.2022 This is my 20th year working in the arts. This is from my first Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2005. At the time, I was living with my parents in Perth so I could afford to write and develop my act. That’s how the arts work, there are years of uncertainty before it all comes together. If COVID had happened at this point in my career, I would have been finished. As of last month, every artist, festival, gallery, theatre, live music venue in Australia has lost their audiences and... income. 600,000 workers, the majority casual. The proposed stimulus doesn't help these people. Yet. Tomorrow Scott Morrison (ScoMo) and Josh Frydenberg decide the fate of so many of our community’s brightest lights. The industry has told you what a specialist package would look like. Please give the arts a future. Thanks to Lawrence Leung for the photo.
